Notes: I was hoping to play this game for some time, and so we gave it a shot tonight. I probably should have told everyone that it was just practice, and not to get too worked up if it was taking a long time, which it did. In fact, we only got through 4 turns before we quit, due to time.

Of course, four of us were unfamiliar with the rules and the mechanics. I think this game will flow more smoothly once everyone is more familiar with the mechanics, but I was frequently explaining the various chips throughout the game. When someone took a long time to choose a chip, Dan moaned and groaned a lot.

The game progressed like a stereotypical game, actually. Lee made a big push early, and was on the verge of winning. Lee tried to convince Jim to throw a fight for his home territory so that Lee could officially grab his 6th city and win the game. Jim wasn't buying though, and he fended Lee's pathetic army off.

I progressed slowly in the north, with Amanda's House Greyjoy distracted by beating up on Rakesh's Lannister, which was pretty much expected. Dan and Jim expanded slowly through the south, with Jim making the first attack. Dan was trying to amass enough armies to go after some of Lee's territory, but Jim made a sneaky attack that distracted him from that.

The game ended with Jim going after Dan, and Dan and Mike about to take bites out of Lee's 5-city position. Rakesh seemed tired of losing to Amanda, and was starting to look west and south from the coast, though he may have had naval ambitions. I had a strong grip on the north, but my army was spread pretty thin. Though I could have taken the Eyrie from Lee on the next turn, it would have been tough, and I had already defeated his navy once.

After the game, Rakesh, Amanda, and Lee said they liked it, but that they needed to get used to the mechanics and strategies of it. I agree. I'd like to have a weekend game session to try again sometime soon.

Notes: To help wash the slowness and incomplete Game of Thrones out, we played some 6 Nimmt! We tried the first round using the variant, which is using a number of cards equal to the number of players x 10, plus 4 more. With four us, this meant only cards 1-44. This version makes for more reliable card-counting, but Amanda didn't like it, so we switched to the standard version. Lee was a pretty giddy winner, and he held the lead through all four rounds.
