Notes: Karla was pretty keen on this game after playing Kaveh the other day, so I matched up with her. I've been beating her the last few times, but this game she destroyed me.

In the first round I was having a pretty good round, but she had an unbelievable blue expedition, with 2 handshake cards and 9 total for the expedition. She also had a nice set of red cards and though I had good groups of white and green, Karla got in on my Yellow expedition by the end, taking several points away from me for herself. Scores:

Karla: 33 (Red) + 86 (Blue) + 5 (Yellow) = 124
Mike: 36 (Green) + 46 (White) + 12 (Yellow) = 94

The second round was an exercise in frustration. I had to commit to three handshakes early on and only made one of them profitable. Meanwhile, Karla and I combined to put just about every green expedition card on the board. Had I focused on that, I might have had a good round. Instead, Karla snagged a few late points from it and had a nice Yellow expedition, much to my chagrin. I had blue set up to give me some nice scoring but couldn't acquire enough cards. 2nd round scores:

Karla: 14 (Red) + 3 (Green) + 1 (White) + 30 (Yellow) = 48 + 124 = 172
Mike: 14 (Red) + 0 (White) + 14 (Blue) - 8 (Yellow) = 20 + 94 = 114

In round 3, I built solid foundations of green and white expeditions and need just the 8, 9 or 10 white card to get the +20 bonus for having an 8 card expedition. My Green was solid, but had topped out at 6 cards. I waited and waited and waited for the white draw, and tried starting a red expedition in the meantime that went nowhere. Karla was spread out and it was with a moan of frustration that I saw her start a White expedition with the 8 card. That meant she had all three of them that I wanted and my chances of catching up were over. Final round:

Karla: -4 (Green) + 14 (White) + 16 (Blue) + 16 (Yellow) = 42 + 172 = 214
Mike: 0 (Red) + 39 (Green) + 12 (White) = 51 + 114 = 165

Had I managed to get the 8 white card, I would have lost by 5. Had I acquired the 9 white card, I would have lost by 2, and if I had managed to get the 10 card, I would have won by 1 point.
