My second cousin once removed,
John
Burnard, served as a Sergeant in the 27th
Battalion, AIF in World War 1. John enlisted just 8
months after Australia declared war. The 27th Battalion was formed
in South Australia April 1915 and the first departure of troops from Adelaide
was on Geelong
31 May 1915. It is speculation that he was part of this initial intake.
