Ashley T. Newfoundland
When her brother was diagnosed with epilepsy, Ashley was driven to learn
more about the disease. She researched and wrote a pamphlet that was used
in a recent campaign for Epilepsy Newfoundland and Labrador to educate
others about epilepsy Ashley has also conducted surveys and prepared multimedia
slide shows as part of an ongoing educational campaign. Through this work
she hopes to help people with epilepsy "feel a bit of pride instead of
shame.''
Courtney B. Nova Scotia
As a young girl with diabetes, Courtney and her family support
and are deeply involved in the Canadian Diabetes Association In her
efforts to educate her local commnity, Courtney has done public service
announcements on radio and television as well as interviews to help
other children realize that thev can live a normal healthy life with
diabetes. In her own words, '' I like to visit families so that they can
see me as a diabetic and know that their children will be okay."
Marco S. New Brunswick
Committed to keeping planet Earth clear Marco donates his time to the
Destination Conservation Team at his school. He has helped to organize
an in-school office recycling program, newspaper and beverage container
recycling program, as well as a turn-out-the-lights program. The efforts
of his Destination Conservation Team have inspired other schools to 'get
involved and make a difference in the world.''
