Harley Devane

Character Description: Harley has brown, shoulder length, straight hair with silver bangs that frame face. Her are eyes ice blue and her height is 5' 7". She has pale skin (note this is because she's Irish).  

While out of uniform she wears either a navy sweater with black strip over chest, black skirt (3 inches above knee), black scarf, toboggan, and gloves; black baggy pants with a stud belt, black and blue combat boots, a black shirt that(in blue) says 'Nevermore', with a black studded chocker (or blue cloak, depends on weather); or jeans, black stiletto boots, a black tank top and a black leather jacket.  

She talks with her hands, never makes eye contact when talking unless the conversation is extremely serious, walks with hands in pockets or on hips unless holding books, bites lip when contemplating something, is always in some form of movement (either swinging arms, tapping feet together or fingers on a table etc.), and  walks in a straight line (like a cat) and on the balls of her feet.  

She also wears contacts but has glasses, has a scar above her left eye caused by what she refers to as "The unspeakable tennis incident of tennis", she also has a scar across her back caused by what she refers to as nothing. No one except herself, the head master, and the head of house for her know it's there, and it's origins. She is extremely agile and flexible because of self-defense training she's been taking since she was 8. She is also jumpy and it's extremely hard to sneak up on her, and anyone smart wouldn’t try to, they are likely to get hit, kicked, scratched (she has claw like finger nails), or stabbed (she has a muggle knife on had at all times when she is permitted to).

Personality: Harley has extreme respect for all professors, staff and prefects (even if she doesn't like them as a person). She can come off as cold/rude, snobby or shy to peers she doesn't know well (especially those she doesn't want to know), however she is just very shy and finds it almost impossible to trust anyone who’s not her true friend. To her friends and loved ones she is kind, funny, and has some of the best quips and comebacks there are; she does however tend to get snappy and can be mean to them if they get on her nerves, interrupt her study/private time, or catch her at a bad time/mood.  

As a person she would take any secret to the grave never betray anyone, however she never trusts anyone and thinks that everyone has a secret motive when it comes to her (unless they have earned her title of friend). She's defensive and protective or her beliefs, friends, values, etc.; she is also very aggressive and has been known to slap someone across the face for insulting something she was protective of. She can be a smart alec as well, and becomes easily annoyed with people who do what she considers 'stupid' or 'pointless' things.  

Oddly enough despite the above she is a humanitarian and considers any harm (physical or emotional) on an 'innocent' the cruelest thing in the world. She would easily die before she allowed major harm on one. This is because despite being a 'perfect' student and seemingly strong person inside she is weak and very easily can be upset over something and never show it until it becomes to much and she has an emotional outburst that results in all sorts of damages. More than likely because she is a very passionate person and puts all her heart in everything she does and expects every one else to do so as well, hence why she doesn't respond to teasing, jokes, and pranks (pulled on her of course) very well. As a foot note she is also very stubborn and cannot be talked into something she doesn't want to do

History: Harley Leora Devane was born on January 25th to Katlin and Tony Devane. Katlin 'Kate' Devane (formerly Katlin Todd) was a muggle; Anthony 'Tony' Devane was a pureblood wizard. They lived in muggle London until the birth of her younger brother Church O'Mally Devane (whom she refers to as Caboose); after that they moved to wizard London .               

Three years after the move (when she was about 5) the unmentionable tennis incident of tennis occurred. While playing tag on a tennis court she ran into the net crank thus lacerating her forehead, above her left eye. At St. Mungo's (where she was taken for treatment) the family met a young doctor who went by the name of Timothy Ecklie. He was a charming young man and both Tony and Kate liked him. After becoming a family friend he began acting strangely toward them. Always showing up in odd places, and (in Harley's opinion) becoming a bit too friendly with her mother.  

Eventually one night (October 31st) Ecklie showed up very late at their house claming to have been kicked out of his apartment and was in need of a place to stay. As soon as Tony let him in, Ecklie pulled a sickle (as in weapon not wizard money) and stabbed Tony. Kate (who had been hidden by a shadow) saw this and ran to get Harley and Church. She died protecting them. Harley (who had taken Church and fled at her mother's order) was spared from seeing the ordeal, but upon reaching the street with her brother found Ecklie had 'friends' and they had killed everyone on the block. Harley and Church were captured by one of these 'friends' and taken to Ecklie. Harley tried to protect her brother but was hit by the sickle that killed her father. Unable to move she was forced to watch her brother die in front of her eyes. She fell unconscious afterward and woke up at St. Mungos.  

She was taken in by Abigail 'Abby' Sidle; A witch, who had lost her fiancée', mother, and best friend to Ecklie's massacre. Harley later found out Abby's father had been killed by Ecklie's father, and that her grandfather (Kate's father; yes she also found Kate was a squib) had killed Ecklie's father. Ecklie had killed Harley's family out revenge and had gone mad after he found his father's body when he was 12. The scar on Harley's back is a constant reminder of what happened that night, and this is also the reason she never trusts anyone.               

She was 7 when Abby took her in and is now 13. Over the past 7 years she has been looking for anything that might hint at why her grandfather had killed Ecklie's father. As well as what happened to her brother. She thought he had been killed, but when the crime scene was searched, his body wasn't found and they never found Ecklie. Harley now aspires to become an auror so when she finds Ecklie she can have what she considers 'just revenge', she also hopes to find out what happened to her brother and hopes against all hopes that wherever he (or his body) may be, that Ecklie is no where near.
