Davis Family Reunion set for June 28, 2003
The Davis family reunion for 2003 has been set for Saturday, June 28. It will be held at Becker Park, the same location as 2001. This private park will be open at about 10 AM for us. A map on how to find the park is included. The park has a shelter so there will be cover to get out of the sun.
The reunion will again include a pot luck lunch meal. For entertainment, there are plans for some games. We're planning on a bit of Bingo and there is room for volleyball. We also have plans for activites for the children. In addition to an opportunity to visit with relatives, we encourage you to bring along your family stories and photos. Several of your relatives have been tracing the Davis family tree, so bring along your questions on our family history as well. We plan on having a discussion on the history of the family for all that wish to participate.
We also plan to discuss future reunions and setting up a committee to get everything ready. Please bring your ideas for this along with your lawn chairs.
So who all is invited to this reunion? The goal for this every other year get-together is for the descendants of Milton Reese Davis to have a chance to visit. You might wonder if that is many folks. Well, Milton Reese Davis had 7 children and 35 grandchildren. Not a very big family you might think, but those 35 grandchildren married as well, and at last count we knew of 82 great-grandchildren, 251 great-great-grandchildren, 145 ggg-grandchildren, and at least 37 gggg-grandchildren. We're pretty sure that we don't have every descendant counted, and these numbers don't include any spouses!
This will be the 3rd reunion for the family.  In both 2000 and 2001, 6 of the 7 children of Milton Reese Davis were represented. There were about 80 people at the 2000 reunion which was held in Sycamore a week after the Samuel Davis family held a reunion in Chicago. In 2001 there were again about 80 people in attendance, many of whom had not been able to attend in 2000. We are hoping that an even larger group will be able to attend in 2003.
What do we know about Milton Reese Davis? He was born in Indiana in 1830 and served in the Civil War. He lived in Scott and Clark County's in Indiana before the war and in (at least) Washington County Indiana after the war. In later years he lived in Coles County Illinois, but moved back to Clark County Indiana. He died in 1906.
Milton was married twice, first to Mary 'Polly" Penrod, who died in 1887. He later married Sophia LeVina (Richey) Davis. Milton and Polly had 7 children, sons Samuel, James, John, Milton, William, and Isaac, and daughter Mary. By 1930 the families or children of James, Milton, William, Isaac, and Mary had migrated to the DeKalb, Illinois area. Many of Samuel's children also ended up in the Chicagoland area. John's family remained in Coles County, Illinois but recently rediscovered the rest of the clan.

Do you know of Davis relatives that did not or might not have received this newsletter? We would love for all the descendants to be at the reunion. Please feel free to share this letter. You may also direct them to the internet website listed below or drop a note to the return address on this letter with the address of the relatives we missed.
