1 Federal Census, 1830-1860 Indiana. In 1860 Clark County, Indiana Census, Milton Davis' wife Mary, age 29, is listed as born in Indiana. Also listed with the family is Samuel Parrod, age 50, listed as born in Kentucky. All evidence points to Samuel as being Samuel Penrod, father of Milton's wife Mary. Also in Clark County in 1860 is a Samuel Penrod (age 35), Eliza (age 31), Esther Ann (age 10), Reuben (age 8), Samuel H. (age 6), Daniel W. (age 4) and Mary E. (age 1). Father Samuel was born in Kentucky and all others born in Indiana.
In 1850 Scott County Indiana census we find a Samuel Penrod (age 45) listed with children Jonathon (age 22), Andrew J. (age 19), and Mary (age 16). Samuel is listed as born in Kentucky with all 3 children born in Indiana. Thus far we have located no other Mary Penrod in Indiana in 1850 that was born in Indiana and is over the age of 1 year. This then is Mary's census record for 1850.
In 1840 the census only listed the head of household. Since 1850 Samuel had children born in Indiana we expect him to be in Indiana in 1840. There are only 2 Penrod Census record in Indiana for the year 1840. In Tippecanoe County there is a Peter Penrod who has only 2 children. There is a Mary Penrod in Scott County aged 50-60 with the oldest male being aged 30-40, 3 younger males (ages 15-20, 10-15, and 5-10) and one younger female (age 5-10). This suggests that the head of household Mary is Samuel's mother and that Samuel is the male aged 30-40.
In 1830 there is only 1 Penrod listing in the entire state, for Samuel Penrod (age 20-30). There is one female aged 40-50, two age 10-15, and one 5-10. There is another male aged 20-30 in the household, one aged 10-15, one aged 5-10, and two under 5.
In 1820 there is no Penrod in the Indiana Census records.

So, this is the conclusion. Between 1820 and 1830, Mary Penrod (born about 1785) moved from Kentucky to Indiana with two sons, Samuel and unknown. Samuel was the older of the sons as he was listed as the head of houshold. By 1830 Mary was a widow. By 1840 the unknown brother had moved out leaving Samuel, his mother Mary, and children Samuel, Jonathon, Andrew, and Mary living in Scott County, Indiana. By 1850 Samuel's mother Mary had probbly died, and Samuel's son Samuel was probably serving as an apprentice and may have been married. Jonathon, Andrew and Mary were still living with their father. By 1860 Samuel was living with his daughter Mary and her husband Milton Davis. Based off of the different ages listed for Samuel, he was probably born between 1800 and 1805.
