Sighing, Serena glanced at her reflection in the mirror for a final
time. She wasn't sure she liked the outfit Adrienne and Aurora had
talked her into buying. It was a short black skirt that fell about
mid thigh, and white button up blouse with a starched collar. She
had added a black tie loosely around her neck. Serena had left her
hair down, but had clipped it back with little black clips. She had
pulled on a pair of high heel shoes that made her long legs look
longer.
Serena glanced at her watch and saw that Darien was due any minute.
She looked out the window of her house and saw Darien's red convertible
pulling up in front of her house.
"Dad?" She asked, sticking her head into her father's studio. "Dad I'm
going out now." She told him. Her father was painting, and not paying
any attention to her.
"I'll be home later tonight." She told him.
"Uh-huh, uh-huh." He nodded, still not listening to her. Serena
sighed and shut his door. She grabbed her mini backpack and pulled
out her key. When the door bell rang, Serena opened the door.
"Hi Serena. You look stunning." Darien smiled at her. He was wearing
a pair of black slacks and a royal blue dress shirt.
"Thanks." Serena told him. She shut and locked the door behind herself
before following Darien to his car. Darien opened the passenger door
and helped Serena in.
"Thanks." She told him again. Darien smiled at her before walking around
the car. Unwillingly, Serena's eyes followed him.
'He looks pretty good.' She thought to herself, before scoffing silently.
'Anyone can look good in designer clothes.'
The drive to his house was silent. Serena didn't really want to talk to
Darien. She was worried about her father. He seemed to be getting worse.
Ever since her mother had died... Serena sighed. Darien glanced over at
her.
"Are you okay?" He asked her, keeping his attention on the road.
"Yeah, fine." She replied. Darien didn't say anything else until they
had reached his house.

Serena stood at the door with Darien. People had come in horde's shortly
after they had arrived. Everyone seemed shocked to see Serena greeting
them with Darien, but Serena had managed to keep her icy glares to a
minimum.
"Aurora! Serena cried, hugging her friend. "I'm going to kill you."
"Funny." Aurora whispered back.
"Hi Kevin. It's nice to see you again." Serena smiled at her friend's
date.
"You too, Serena." Kevin replied.
"Hi Darien." A silky voice breathed. Serena turned to see a pretty blond
pressing her body against Darien's in a hug. Darien seemed to be disgusted
at the girl's behaviour.
"Hello, Melissa." He replied distastefully.
"I'm so glad you invited me to this party." She giggled.
"Did I invite you?" Darien asked.
"Oh you!" Melissa playfully slapped her hand against Darien's chest. Serena
raised an eyebrow at the girl. Aurora and Kevin had moved into the main
room, leaving Serena to rescue Darien from his obvious discomfort.
"Might I ask what you are doing all over my boyfriend?" Serena asked,
fixing her icy glare on the tall girl. Darien, catching on placed his arm
around Serena's shoulder and pulled her close to him. He was surprised
at how well Serena's body fit against his.
Melissa looked at Serena in disgust. She raised her hand to slap Serena
across the face. As her hand flew towards Serena, Darien used his
lightening fast relexes to catch Melissa's wrist.
"Don't you dare." His tone was cold. Melissa snatched her hand back.
"Tramp!" She exclaimed, glaring at Serena. Serena raised her eyebrow again,
looking slightly amused. Melissa flounced out of Darien's foyer, leaving
the party altogether.
Serena pulled herself away from Darien and quickly left the front foyer.
She was confused, in turmoil. All this time she thought she had hated
Darien, despised him and his little rich friends, but the second he puts
his arm around her, she wants to melt?
Serena sighed and sank into the couch. She glanced around and saw that she
was in some sort of sitting room. It was large, and decorated mainly in dark
blues. At one end, there was a grand piano that Serena would have died to
play. She stood up and went closer to it. Gently trailing her finger along
the edge of the wood work, Serena daringly tapped out a note. The sound
rang true and clear.
"Do you play?" A deep voice asked from the doorway. Serena whirled around,
feeling like a child getting caught with her hand in the cookie jar. She
sighed, relieved, to see that it was Darien. He chuckled softly.
"You can play it, if you'd like." Darien came into the room and stood in
front of the piano as he spoke. "Mother has always wanted me to play, but
I've never had any interest."
He sat down and tapped out a few notes of his own, before playing the left
hand of the Moonlight Sonata. Serena sighed and sat down next to Darien
and took up the right hand. She noticed that his part became more passionate
as she played, more like he was playing from his heart, his soul.
Whenever Serena came near a piano, her heart soared with emotions. Whenever
she played, you could hear her very being in the music.
Darien let his part fade as Serena continued to play. Her hands danced
across the keys with a joy and love for music Darien had never felt. She
was amazing, and Darien found himself even more in love with her. Serena
was an unattainable Goddess to him. The only girl in the school who had
never fawned over him. She was also the only one he had ever cared for.
Serena finished up the piece and let the final notes hang in the air for
a minute. Her hands remained poised over the piano as the moonlight filtered
through the window, surrounding her in an angelic light. Darien was
absolutely mesmerized as he gazed at her.
Slowly Serena lowered her hands to rest on the bench, one on either side of
her. Darien wanted nothing more than to take Serena into his arms, and
never let her go. Serena didn't move or speak. She let the silence wash
over them, leaving an unfamiliar peace in its wake.
Darien didn't move either, for fear of ruining the feeling between them.
For once she wasn't being outright hostile towards him. He had been
surprised, and grateful, when she had rescued him from Melissa. She was the
last person he would have expected to pose as his girlfriend to help him.
He was glad though. It gave him a taste of what it would be like to call
Serena his own.
Finally, Serena stood up from the piano. She turned to face Darien, who was
still watching her intently.
"I fear I've stolen your from your guests too long." Her voice was soft and
gentle, like a cool breeze on a spring day. Darien shook his head.
"They'll never know I'm missing." He told her. It was true. Give a group
of teenagers music, food and drinks and you can leave them alone for hours.
"My friends must be wondering where I am..." Her voice trailed off. "I don't
want to go find them yet."
Darien was surprised by her for the second time that night and his expression
must have shown. Serena's cheeks stained a faint crimson hue and she turned
away. Darien stepped towards her and placed a hand on her shoulder. Serena
turned to face him, surprised at his close proximity.
"Darien, I..." She began.
"Serena." His tone cut her off. He was being so gentle, so sweet... Could
he possibly feel something for her? Did she actually care?
'Yes' She decided. 'I care... Probably more than I want to admit... I
think... I think I'm in love with him!'
The thought shocked herself, but she knew it to be true. Only that day she
had hated him and wished he would leave her alone, but had she really?
Maybe she always loved him, just never wanted to admit it.
"Serena, there's something I want you to know." He told her softly. He was
going to take the plunge and tell her how he felt. He would rather lose her
forever, rather than never have the chance with her.
"You are the only girl I have even known that hasn't thrown herself at me,
and you are the only girl I wish would..." His voice trailed off as he
gazed into her hopeful eyes, the only encouragement he needed. "I love you
Serena. I..."
Serena leaned forward, pressing her lips against Darien's. She couldn't
believe that this was true, and it was just some fantasy, she was going to
live it to the utmost.
She threw herself against him, kissing him again and again. She felt him
respond and kiss her back.
Darien was holding her tightly against him, not believing what was happening.
Serena was kissing him for all she was worth. Did she love him too?
'Of course not Darien! She hates you, for being so obnoxious!' That annoying
little voice told him.
'Then why is she kissing you like that?' Another replied. The annoying voice
shut up quickly, and Darien abandoned all thought.
