Cake inserts

there are an endless amount of possibilities when it comes to cakes, on this page i will show you how to make just 2 of the possibilities

Insert #1

These inserts are just little tubes filled with meal powder or any other desired composition and they spin around when they are launched. Not much but they still look pretty cool

Start by getting a tube of the desired size, here i am using a 5mm id 1.5mm wall thickness tube, now cut your tube up into small lengths, i cut mine up into 15-20mm lengths

Get one of these tubes that you cut off and ram some composition in it

Continue this untill there is about 4mm of free space at the top of the tube  \/ \/ \/

Now fill this gap with some kitty litter>>>>

this prevents both ends from igniting when it is launched from the tube

It helps to prime these with a bit of BP paste or other compatible prime. I just get a sharp object and gouge an "x" into the exposed meal, that usually works

Insert #2

these are a bit harder yet still very simple, these are also a whole lot more impressive. they are basically 15mm id canister shells.

Start by getting a tube with an id of 15mm. i use thin walled tubes so they don't make a lot of noise.

You will now need to close off one end. Do this by cutting a thin cardboard disk which fits into the tube. Push it in about 4mm, run a bead of glue around the inside edges and fold them in.

here is a crude drawing which should help you understand what's going on

Now poke a whole to accommodate your time fuse, spollete ect. then insert your delay device into the hole and glue it in. I used a small spollete (id of about 3mm) i also "crossmatched" it to make sure it ignites :)

now flip it upside down and fill it with stars but leave a 5mm gap at the top so you can close it. once you have filled it with stars, pour in some back powder untill the gaps have been filled. once the shell is full, put in another disk, run a bead of glue around the inside walls and fold them in, leave it out to dry and vuala! put it in a tube with the appropriate amount of lift and let it off

and there ya have it!
