Roman Candles

Roman candles are a fun and easy device which requires little tooling. Making tooling its incredibly simple, for the lift charge measurer I just made a very thin walled tube with the same I.D. as the roman candle tube and the height of the tube is up to you, depends on how much lift you need. For the delay measurer I did the same but made the tube taller as the delay needs to be rammed a bit. Now all you have to do is glue these tubes (like in the photo) onto strips of cardboard or pop sticks or whatever. In the picture below you can see my tooling which i threw together in less than a minute. I got the idea from Dan Williams' page, Thanks Dan. There is also some round and some pumped stars and of course my rammers The tools are not necessary but they help to get consistent results.

you will need: A tube with the desired !.D.

A rammer which fits into the tube you are using

Some stars that fit into the tube with about 1mm either side

A suitable delay mix

Some kitty litter

                 >>Ok get your tube and ram some clay in the bottom>>

<<<now put in some Black powder for the lift<<<

                      >>>>Put in a star>>>>

I used some standard charcoal stars

<<<Put some delay mix on top of the star, I use meal powder with a lil bit more charcoal<<

                                            >>Compress the delay a little bit. and try to use an even amount of force in each ramming cycle so you get more consistent results.

Now just repeat the above until you have either filled the tube, or have reached the desired amount of shots.

Now just insert a fuse into the top and tape a skewer or something like that to the candle so it can be stuck into the ground and your done! it should look a little like this

Click *here* for a video of this roman candle in action. the roman candle I taped wasn't all that great. it was rather inconsistent. oh well hopefully yours will be better :)
