Message for the Week

2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. 3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? 4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. 5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. 6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. 7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. 8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. 11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

Ecclesiastes 1: 2-11

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

The opening statement simply points out that what we are going to discuss is the worst of the vanities. Look at the end of the statement; (all is vanity) now look at the beginning of the statement vanities of vanity. So the writer says in his opinion that these are the worst of all. Some of have experienced this feeling in our lives and have been in this state of mind. You have worked hard to get ahead and you wonder if it was all worth it. You wonder will your kids appreciate would you have established or will they let it all go down the drain. Some may even wonder will someone else come along and inherit what they have not worked for. Solomon had built a great temple for God and had built house for himself that were outstanding. He had the best of everything. He had servants and handmaidens and the best clothes and women. Solomon was the wisest man ever. There was nothing he could not have and yet he was happier before he had all of this. Here is the message. Number one, it's Ok to accomplish all that you can but don't let that be your hearts treasure. Number two, the most important thing and the only way to have joy and peace is to make sure you have a right relationship with Jesus. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul? Remember God loves you.
