PITBULLS IN THE NEWS |
January, 2005 |
(Virginia Beach, VA, January 6th, 2005, 7:18 a.m.) A dog faces more surgery after being shot by a neighbor and that neighbor is now facing charges and another night behind bars, after he claims he shot the pit bull in self defense, when it charged at him and his wife. Jade, the nearly five month old Pit Bull, is at the center of this controversy. Her owners were stunned when their dog came home last night, shot in the face and shoulder. "I freaked out, I just saw blood all over her face and down her shoulder, I started screaming." "There's no reason to pull out a shotgun and shoot my dog point blank in the face." But Kimiki Williams sees it differently. Her husband shot the dog and is now in jail. "He was just defending himself it's just not fair. I don't understand, you have a dog charging you, that won't go, no owner came to claim it or say it's my dog or anything. I'm blowing my horn and nobody's reacting, only my husband." Your NewsChannel 3's Kurt Williams asked Kimiki Williams more about what should have been done if they felt threatened by the dog, she says, "My recommendation is remove yourself from the situation. Kurt replied, You would run from a dog? Williams answered, No, I said remove yourself not run." She goes on to say, "But it was defense, the dog was in my yard at my door." The results of our investigation have shown this was not considered a defensive action. But Beach animal control officers stress you can protect yourself if you genuinely feel threatened. Kenneth Williams is due to have his first court appearance Thursday, because of a delay in getting his paper-work processed he'll have to spend another night in jail on charges of animal cruelty and discharging a firearm. --Article by Kurt Williams, WTKR News |
Pit Bull Shot By Neighbor |
Man's best friend is back home thanks to a little computer chip. A female pitbull had been missing for six months. On Tuesday a man walking his dogs near the Austin Zoo found her and called the Zoo Sanctuary to see if someone would pick her up. They did, and this dog was more than happy to be rescued a second time. "I got her from the Town Lake Animal Rescue and when I got her she had a chip in her neck. The people at the zoo had a scanner and they were able to scan her and the they called me this afternoon," owner Brad Ehlers said. "On a whim, I decided to scan her and see if she had a microchip. Luckily, that owner followed through and got it registered," zoo Director Cindy Carroccio said. It's believed the dog was likely dumped in the area because it's far from her owner's home. But she's healthy and in good shape. It is illegal in the state of Texas to abandon or dump an animal. --Article by News 8 Austin Staff |
