Monthly Contests

Writing Quality Contest

To win the writing quality contest, a member has to be the author (or one of the authors) of the post that is voted the best of the month by the other members.

The way this works is: at the end of every month, each BoD member nominates their favorite post from that month to be voted on by the other members. If more than one BoD member chooses the same post as a favorite, one of them will choose another one, so that every BoD member nominates a different post. A BoD member may not nominate any post that they have written (or helped write), but they may nominate another BoD member's post, if they genuinely believe it to be their favorite. (This will change if we see anyone abusing this priviledge, ie: BoD members nominating each other's posts as favors to each other.) Once the nominations have been chosen, the members will be asked to vote on the selected posts. Whichever post receives the most member votes is the winner.

Any and all writers of the winning post, whether that be one person or many, will be displayed on the website as the winners of that month's contest, along with a link to the winning post.

Activity Contest

To win the activity contest, a member must write more than any other member in the club for that given month.

The way this one works is: post, post, post! Every month, the BoD keeps track of how many posts each member makes, and at the end of the month, we tally everything up. It isn't quite as easy as simply adding up the number of posts per member, however. If that were the case, it would be easy to win the contest by simply posting numerous one-paragraph posts. So here's how we award the points: every post gets copy/pasted into a microsoft word file, and those posts which are 1-2 pages long (or close to it) count as 1 post. Posts that are under a page count as half a post, and posts that go over two pages count as two posts. This is generally how we figure it, but if we see any extreme cases (very long or short posts), we will award more or less points to make things fair. We then divide the total points by the amount of writers who contributed to it, so that everyone gets a fair share.

The winner is the member who is counted by the BoD to have made the most posts in that month. Winners are displayed on the website, next to the winner of the writing contest. Keep in mind that if we see any evidence that members are trying to cheat their way into winning this contest, we will ban them from it, and if it becomes a common occurence among members, we will remove it altogether. Also, this does not have any effect on the manner in which we record posts for member activity requirements. In that case, any post, regardless of length, still counts as one post.
