Occupation/Rank: Wingsecond of Wing Two/Brownrider
Physical Description
Standing a little over six feet in height, K'mir, or Kas, as he is
more
commonly known, is taller than average but not exactly a giant. In
build he
leans more towards a Runner's physique than a Smith's with his lithe
musculature and long limbs. He works hard to keep himself as fit as he
can
be, but as he's never been one to laze about, he doesn't truly mind.
Kas' ash blonde hair is relatively short, two or three inches at most
and
has a tendency to stand on end, or all over the place, due to his habit
of
running his hands through his hair when he's thinking. Admittedly, the
fact
that it is wildly curly probably does not help him much in terms of
keeping
it under control. Like most blondes, Kas has pale skin and a multitude
of
freckles, although most appear on his back and shoulders with a small
amount
running over his hawkish nose and high cheekbones. Due to said nose and
the
general angularity of his face, Kas can't exactly be called handsome.
He
leans more towards austere than truly "pretty." However, with his dark
klah-brown eyes that seem to miss nothing, he rarely has trouble
attracting
the attention of the opposite gender. It's just that he rarely bothers
and
when he does...he rarely can keep them around.
On a typical day, Kas can be found wearing dark brown or black pants
and a
dark colored shirt, usually red or blue. As he says, he has enough
lightness
in his skin and hair, he has no desire to add light colored clothing to
the
list. Although, strangely enough, unless required to do so, Kas won't
wear
boots, preferring the more comfortable sandals or bare feet. Kas has
multiple tattoos and a long, wicked Threadscore that travels almost the
entire length of his back. The tattoos are each made of complex,
interwoven
designs with the subject of each being slightly different. A large,
spread-winged dragon traverses across his back, covering part of the
Threadscore; a herd of runners winds around both biceps and lastly, a
group
of flitters wing their way up his ribcage, connecting in the middle of
his
back. While a myriad of other minor scars garnered from a life lived
largely
outside the confines of "normal" dragonrider and holder societies mark
his
body, other than the Threadscore, Kas remains relatively free of
serious
scarring.
Personality
Kas can almost never be seen without a smile on his face, although not
always a full blown grin. He simply is the kind of man who always seems
to
be amused by something, perhaps just life in general. And often, it's
exactly that. It helps that his dragon shares his very dry, sarcastic
sense
of humor and the two often banter back and forth like siblings. An
exceedingly patient man, Kas also has a tendency to be a relatively
quiet
one. He rarely speaks before he thinks and will mull over situations
and
conversations in his head before ever speaking up. This means that most
see
Kas as a very cautious, shy man. He's neither, merely a quiet one.
Indeed, cautious and shy are perhaps the very last words that should
be
used to describe Kas. A very strong sense of humor and a very laidback,
easygoing nature hide the very independent daredevil underneath. Kas
takes
orders only when required to and has always been one to go his own way,
uncaring of what others may think. He is highly opinionated but as he
often
prefers to hear what others have to say, does not often speak his mind
unless he feels a viewpoint is being missed. Actually, he will often
play
the devil's advocate and will argue a point he doesn't believe in just
because he thinks it's a viewpoint that hasn't been considered.
On the downside, Kas can also be objective to a fault. He's a very
logical,
intelligent man and thoroughly enjoys learning new things. This means,
however, that he pays a lot less attention to the emotional side of
things.
A driven man, he can work himself into exhaustion, forgetting to eat or
sleep simply because he's too interested in what he's working on. He is
also
that rare breed that doesn't mind paperwork, to him it's all
interesting
because it's something new to occupy his mind. And Kas hates nothing in
the
world more than boredom. And although, due to his constant people
watching
and tendency to think before he speaks, Kas is generally considered a
good
person to go to for advice, Faranth help him with his own life. The man
can
become so involved in what he's doing that he pays little attention to
what's happening in his own life and is stubborn enough to refuse to
admit
it.
Lest one consider him a true scholar with no interest outside of the
hides
he enjoys studying, Kas enjoys the outdoors and activity equally as
much as
he enjoys reading. He despises laziness and can often be found
outdoors,
just walking around if nothing else. And although he spends more time
breaking up fights than being involved in them, Kas is truly an
adrenaline
junkie and when he finds a person who will indulge him in sparring,
running
or other various fun contests, he is at his happiest.
Background History
Born Kasimir to a family of traders, Kas was the fourth of twelve
children.
Growing up in such a large family, Kas tended to be far quieter than
his
siblings and thus, often escaped notice, which suited him just fine. In
fact, it suited his purposes very well indeed. He could get away with
just
about anything, with the blame landing on his louder siblings and
cousins
rather than himself. Thus, Kas was free to pursue whatever daredevil
stunts
he chose. Often he was accompanied in this by his slightly younger
sister,
Arista. In truth, the Turn's difference between the two seemed not to
exist
and one was rarely seen without the other. Unfortunately for Arista and
Kas,
however, his parents and the other adults eventually wizened up to
their
antics and they were forced to learn caution, which was a rather good
lesson
for them to be learning anyway. At the age of 12, Kasimir was given a
choice
to be trained as a trader in the like of much of his family or choose a
craft. Kas chose the latter, apprenticing to the last craft that his
family
had ever expected: Dragonhealer.
However, the boy had long been fascinated by dragons, even if he had no
real
desire to be tied down by one. Leaving for Telgar, he began his studies
there and Arista followed after a Turn later. After studying hard for
five
Turns, he made journeyman at seventeen. Kas would have asked to
transfer
then and there, had it not been for Arista. That one Turn difference
turned
into a fateful decision as half a Turn later, he was informed by a
Searchrider that he might want to try standing on the Sands. This both
excited and worried Kas. He did not want to lose his independence and
had no
real desire to be tied down to one place, but how could one give up a
chance
to at least experience the dragons up close? So Kas accepted and Stood.
To
his shock, his apprehensions materialized in the form of a dark,
wraith-like
brown who had decided that he would have none other than the boy who
was now
K'mir for his rider.
And thus, Kas entered weyrlinghood. At first, Kas had a difficult time
adjusting to the fact that he was now stuck in one place, the Weyr. At
least
as a crafter, he had had some choice. But, truthfully, Kas knew he had
no
desire to go back. Graduating at the top of his class, K'mir entered
the
already well populated ranks of the dragonriders at Telgar at 19 Turns
of
age. Deciding that he might as well remain there, K'mir did so for the
next
seven Turns. K'mir participated in a few mating flights but felt no
real
desire for a weyrmate or even a serious relationship, nor was he
willing to
commit the attention to maintaining one.
But finally, Kas' wanderlust has had all it can stand of Telgar and
over the
past two Turns has been urging him to move on. Finally, after
discussing it
with Arista, who was nearing the senior journeywoman status, the two
decided
the best move would be a clean break and a transfer from the crowded
Telgar
Weyr to the much more appealing Mirror Lake Weyr. So finally, the two
put
their plans in motion, eager for the desired change in surroundings as
well
as administration that suited them both better than the conservative
Telgar
and its ilk. Much to his amusement, K'mir soon found that much of his
family
would be meeting him there.

Dragon Info
Name: Karadoth
Color: Brown
Age: 7
Description
Karadoth's rather average size belies the strength and agility packed
into
the lithe muscle of his slender form. And slender Karadoth is. The
lithe
muscle in no way obscures the sleek, serpentine lines of the brown and
nearly everything about him is proportionately long. And as if he had
forseen his rider's preference for dark things, Karadoth nearly matches
his
rider's eyes. A so very dark klah-colored brown as to appear nearly
black,
Karadoth often can seem more shadow than substance. Indeed, at night,
the
brown is very nearly invisible unless you know where to look and what
to
look for. The very dark brown only relents slightly on his underbelly
and
chest to reveal dark russet and tan tones.
The first lesson to learn with Karadoth is to never, ever call him
Kara.
Unless you're female and cute and then you might be able to get away
with
it................maybe. Otherwise, you have just upped your chances of
experiencing what it's like to be eaten by a dragon. And Karadoth has
never
been a particularly sweet-tempered dragon. Evil? No. Docile and sweet?
Definitely _not_. Karadoth is not the type of dragon whose bad side you
want
to be on. Ever. With a very sarcastic, wicked sense of humor and an
even
more evil tendency to get very sweet revenge on those that do get on
his bad
side, Karadoth's personality just about fits his coloring.
All of this aside, Karadoth is strangely enough a rather approachable
dragon. Not that many do if they've seen his temper, but Karadoth is
always
happy to answer any question or just chat about anything under the sun
if
that's what the person or dragon in question would like to do. In that,
he's
a rather strange dragon, not at all reticent to talking to people,
although
he rarely iniates the conversations. He's not a particularly serious
dragon
and has a tendency to keep a running, extremely dry commentary on his
daily
observations, many of which, were it not for his rider's poker face,
would
get said rider in serious trouble for laughter at inappropriate
moments. The
brown is very, very observant and an excellent judge of character which
K'mir often very much appreciates. Karadoth also has a tendency to make
dry
comments poking fun at whomever he happens to be speaking to and often,
the
comments go right over their heads. But it's all entertainment for
Karadoth,
who is quite easily bored and always looking for a challenge.
And unlike many dragons, Karadoth rarely feels the urge to meddle in
his
rider's love life, unless said rider has been particularly reclusive
and
then the brown has no problem using his rather devious mind to entangle
his
rider in interesting situations for which K'mir could almost happily
murder
the brown.
