Physical Description

Standing a solid 6'3", K'ogan works as hard as he plays and it shows. Rather than being bulky with muscle, Kado is all lithe muscle from the broad shoulders tapering down into lean hips as well as the long limbs that give him much of his significant height. And much of that muscle comes from constant strenuous activity outdoors, which Kado is famous for. Actually, he's more famous for the intensity of expeditions in which he has a bad tendency to push harder than his companions would want. Curly dark brown hair frames a tanned, oval face made harsh by a hawkish nose, high cheekbones and otherwise angular, austere features. His hair is longish, just above shoulder length and a bit of a nuisance due to its curliness, but Kado can usually somewhat tame it but pulling it back from his face at least. Deep blue eyes make for a striking impression on most that meet K'ogan and his intensity has a tendency to make itself clear in those eyes.

On a typical day, K'ogan can be found in dark brown or black pants and some type of shirt, color and style matter little to him, most often what he wears is whatever happened to be clean at the time. Also like Kas, K'ogan far prefers to wear sandals or go barefoot however, thankfully he's not so senseless as to wear sandals when there's several feet of snow on the ground (although admittedly he'll wear them until he'd be courting frostbite to continue doing so).

K'ogan prefers to live life on the edge and it certainly shows on his body. Various scars litter his torso, arms and legs though his face has remained relatively free of them. Even so, Kado has only three truly serious scars. Two are rather small threadscores, one on his right shoulder and the other on his left thigh. The last scar, gained from a rather vicious knife fight, runs from his right shoulder blade down to the hip on that side. Lastly, K'ogan has a single tattoo, a dragon amidst intricately interwoven designs extending from the right hip, diagonally up across his lower back and the left side of his upper back to end at the top of his left shoulder.

Personality

Those who first hear about K'ogan expect him to be one of those outdoor, daredevil types that constantly brags about one thing or another that they've done. K'ogan is very nearly the opposite. A fairly quiet man who, like Kas, always seems to be amused at something, with a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor, K'ogan will only talk about what he's done if asked and even if then, usually remains fairly modest about it. Whatever his other faults may be, arrogance is usually not one of them. And far from enjoying the spotlight, Kado prefers to avoid the attention of most people and remains, at heart, a loner. Part of that is due to the very intensity of his nature. Extremely strong-willed (or extremely stubborn, depending on how you look at it), confident and self-assured, K'ogan is one of those people who just can't pass up a challenge. Although some would call him reckless and say he has a death wish, K'ogan doesn't see it that way. To his mind, he's being perfectly reasonable, if not quite "safe." He knows the risks and he would never take a risk that would endanger someone he cared about. Admittedly, knowing that Avroth would suicide if he managed to kill himself on his high intensity activities is likely the reason that K'ogan has managed to survive for the past eight Turns. He believes very strongly that the mind controls the body and that getting mental control is vital. Thus, he has immense willpower and puts himself through things without complaint that most people would have no desire to do.

However, this can all amount to a dangerous lack of restraint on K'ogan's part. K'ogan can be a danger to himself in that he constantly pushes himself. He'll push his limits to the point of collapse, rest as long as he is required to and then get up and do it all over again. He scares the heck out of many of his friends with the close calls that he has and his "little" adventures can become dangerous at times. He has a significant temper that only his iron will lets him control and once he's lost that control, he can be very dangerous indeed. And this all amounts to an intensity that causes Kado to have few close friends and even fewer significant others in his life. Such as currently, he has none. And that will likely continue as Kado is also a very private, emotionally closed off man. A person would have better luck getting a rock to tell its secrets than getting Kado to do the same. And he despises scenes, so he often remains celibate with the exception of occasional mating flights or other meaningless encounters that don't require him to deal with lovers who expect more than he thinks he can give. He also despises leaving himself emotionally open and thus would indeed cut off his nose to spite his face if he thought it would spare him or the other person in the long run. And K’ogan knows very well that he’d make a horrific partner, part of why he remains celibate unless they’re understood sexual encounters.

Background History

Born Kadogan to holder parents, he was the first of four children. His younger brother, Kalogeros, was the only other one to survive infancy. All throughout childhood, the boys were extremely close, more friends than siblings. However, family problems seemed to plague Kado and Kalo from their very earliest Turns. Their father struggled with depression for much of his life and when Kado was ten, his father lost the battle. It didn’t exactly help that the boy walked in on the scene. Regardless, his mother, Karalli, with the help of her two brothers, raised the boys as best as she was able. The two were a handful however, with Kadogan already having extreme daredevil tendencies and broke quite a few bones in those Turns. And when the two boys hit puberty just a Turn apart, the problems worsened. Karalli and her brothers had been raised in what was not a particularly open or accepting family and when it came out that both of her sons were bisexual, the explosion could be heard deep in the Southern continent. Thus, Kadogan was happy to escape into apprenticeship at twelve Turns, when he entered the Healercraft. Kalogeros also chose to apprentice to a craft although he chose differently than his brother and became a Smith. The boys kept in touch Kalo’s firelizard, Nuisance, who had been a parting gift from their mother to Kalo.

At fifteen, however, Kadogan was Searched and brought to Telgar Weyr. He was eager for the change as being in the Weyr gave him far greater freedom than he otherwise would’ve been allowed. It was at the Weyr that Kadogan allowed himself to let loose. Where before, his tendency to be a bit of a daredevil had been repressed because he knew that it made his family uncomfortable, Kado no longer had a reason to do so and grew full force into his uninhibited nature. He was not particularly concerned with relationships and enjoyed the less restrictive Weyr atmosphere. Kadogan Stood for several turns before hitting his nineteenth Turn. Much to his delight, Kalogeros then joined him as a candidate at Telgar. That Turn, he also met the man who would become his best friend, Kasimir. All three Impressed browns at the next hatching and became quite possible three of the most troublesome Weyrlings Telgar had ever dealt with. Regardless, they managed to pass through Weyrling training to become full-fledged brownriders.

Kado, now K’ogan, enjoyed life at the Weyr more than ever and finally seemed to settle down at least a little bit, in terms of his sexual relations. He finally entered into a relationship with a greenrider, Tavira. However, that particular liaison ended when he found the woman had been lying in more than a few beds as well as his. K’ogan would not have had a problem, after all, he was hardly a model of chastity, had the pair not decided to see each other exclusively. Immediately, K’ogan separated all ties with Tavira. Knowing his hatred for melodramatic scenes, the greenrider thereafter seemed determined to make them and for several Turns, any time she saw him, would create such a fuss that K’ogan would turn around and walk out of whatever room he’d just entered.

Therefore, in the six Turns since the debacle, Kado has refused to get involved in another relationship, indeed mostly remaining celibate due to his desire to avoid another such situation although he will participate in the occasional mating flight or other circumstance where the stakes are known upfront. Finally tired of Telgar, when K’mir announced that he and his family were going to try for a change of pace and transfer to the rather different Mirror Lake Weyr, it took little convincing from Kado to get K’geros to go along with the others. And with that, K’ogan happily left Telgar behind, wanting new, more interesting experiences.

Dragon Info

Name: Avroth
Color: Brown
Age: 8

Description

Avroth is by no means a small dragon and comes very close to matching his bronze brothers in size. In build, however, he more resembles his rider with his lithe, long-limbed form. Avroth’s slenderness gives him some of the speed that his size would otherwise rob him of. A deep russet brown, Avroth is a handsome brown, with darker browns and deep reds coloring his belly and shoulders.

Avroth is what one typically expects a brown to be. Generally calm, imperturbable and serious, the brown is also a rather quiet dragon. He prefers his own company and that of his rider to most other creatures and is as much of a loner as his rider is. Therefore, the dry, sarcastic sense of humor that Avroth shares with his rider comes as a bit of a surprise considering his otherwise serious personality. Avroth is also far more cautious than his rider and constantly at least attempts to warn K’ogan of the risks of whatever activity the man is contemplating at the moment.
