Physical Description

K'rynn is about average on the beauty scale. She stands 5'10", with a sleek, athletic build and tightly toned muscles from years of working as an Apprentice Smith and then a Dragonrider. Probably her best feature is her eyes, which are a piercing and intense forest green. Her shoulder-length hair is dark mahogany, and often kept pleated into a braid for convenience. Definitely a tom-boy, she may look female, but she dresses mostly in men's clothes and seems quite determined to interact with others in the same way that men do (including the use of the honorific in her name). She carries herself confidently, and moves with the natural strength and grace that comes from being a very active person, but can often appear emotionally closed and unapproachable.

Personality

K'rynn is a rather complicated person. On the one hand, she is extremely rational and intelligent. On the other hand, her emotions are intense and run very deep. The image of herself that she presents to the world is professional, polite (unless given a reason to be otherwise), focused, capable and strong. She is, however, not very given to being warm and open, although she can be friendly and even possessed of a playfully witty sense of humor when she's feeling comfortable and happy. Much of the time, however, she is rather aloof and intense. The type of person who holds a great deal of emotion simmering beneath a placid surface. She's had to be a fighter all her life, so she will do anything to avoid weakness and vulnerability. She keeps herself and her emotions under tight control, but every now and then that control slips, and the force of the emotions underneath can be rather... overwhelming. She doesn't like to open up to people, and the only one who will ever truly see and know her...inside and out, is her dragon. He alone is the recipient of her unhindered affection. K'rynn is perceptive and intuitive. She trusts her gut instinct, and nearly always follows it.

Background History

Born in High Reaches Hold, Kirynn was the only child of a Master Smith and his wife. Her mother died in child-birth and her father never remarried, which left him to raise her alone. Not really knowing how to raise her up as a "lady", she was treated by her father as if she were no different from a boy. He could be hard on her at times, but he loved her and made sure she was well educated and able to take care of herself, including training her in his own craft.

Childhood was a difficult period in Kirynn's life, as she had few friends, and was constantly having to deal with the double standard of being told that she needed to act more like a girl, and yet could not have many of the things she wanted in life because she was a girl. Hold life was extremely difficult on the young tom-boy, and many times she felt ostracized by her peers and her elders.

When Kirynn was 18, a search dragon noticed her and suggested her as a candidate for the newest High Reaches clutch. Kirynn, wanting to get out of the Hold and explore a different kind of life, agreed to go with them.

The impression did not go down exactly as planned. The conservative riders at High Reaches were displeased to have a female weyrling candidate, but given that if she impressed, it was to be only a green, they let the matter slide. However, as the hatching progressed, none of the greens took an interest in her. One by one, all of the dragons had paired up with their favored candidates. Only one egg remained, and when it hatched, it turned out to be a brown. The hatchling stumbled from boy to boy, gradually becoming more and more distressed as it turned aside all of them. One of the boys, rather small and only 13 years of age, was accidentaly clawed, and Kirynn ran forward to pull him to safety. When she got between the boy and the hatchling, she glanced into the dragon's eyes and impression occurred.

The situation caused a bit of a stir, but given that they didn't have much of a choice, K'rynn (as she insisted on being called) was allowed to join the ranks of the weyrlings and begin training. She loved Taluth, and she loved being a dragonrider, but she was treated badly by many of the other riders and had to really fight to be taken seriously.

Three years later, another brown rider who maintained a particular animosity towards K'rynn picked a fight with her after Taluth beat out his dragon in a green's mating flight. Both riders were injured, and during the fight she broke his arm, rendering him useless for fighting thread for awhile. It was the straw that broke the camel's back, and the Weyrleader made the decision to send K'rynn to one of the other Weyrs where she would no longer cause any problems for them.

Description

Taluth is a larger than average Brown, but, like his rider, is sleek rather than bulky. He is very agile and precise in the air, and almost never misses his mark. His hide is a very dark, rich shade of brown.

As for personality, he is rather quiet and thoughtful. Like his rider, he is not always the most warm and sociable of dragons, and when in a bad mood can become an incorrigible brooder, but he is gentle and good-natured, as well as extremely observant and intuitive.
