Physical Description

M'ten is about six feet tall and slender in the main, with broad shoulders. He is very handsome, in a rakish sort of way. His hair is sandy blond, going a bit gray at the temples, his eyes are blue-green and his skin is pale gold. He keeps himself in good shape so he has muscles, but he has a lean runner's body rather than the overbuilt look of a weightlifter. He face has deep smile and laugh lines and his teeth are even and white. Despite all that, what is most attractive about him is his voice, a quiet low tenor with a mix of slow drawl and northern lilt betraying his wandering lifestyle. He smiles often and his laugh is a low chuckle. He has a long scar along his jawline that only adds to his scruffy charm. He is left handed.

Personality

M'ten is a quiet man, introspective and kind. He is also quite intelligent and creative: he sings, writes verse, plays gitar. He lives most of his life in his mind and talks little, preffering to show that he cares by his actions. And he does care, you couldn't ask for a kinder person. However, there is such a thing as too kind and M'ten has had his hand burned more than once by people, mainly women, who took advantage of his good nature. Therefore, he is loath to open himself up and he is very cautious with his relationships. He also has a lower self-esteem than you'd expect from an attractive man. He doesn't really see himself as handsome. When he is being open with you, he's quite funny, though not in the joke-telling kind of way. He has a very ..mobile voice and is a wicked mimic. He loves to smile and laugh but grows despondent easily and must be soothed by Nimloth. His temper shows itself briefly and it's the brooding kind that he usually works out through physical work. M'ten is loath to take on responsibilty. Not that he's lazy, he's just not a leader. He doesn't feel competent and always thinks the job would be better done by someone else.

Background History

M'ten was born in Lyra Cove Hold to a fisherman and a weaver. The hold was a bit smaller then and M'ten had a charmed childhood. His father would take him sailing or his mother would take him to gather plants to makes dyes. M'ten was an only child, he had been a difficult birth and had damaged his mother so that she could no longer bear children. He grew up with the other hold children and was often the one to arbitrate disputes or tell the young ones stories. He was recognized for his creative talents and apprenticed to the hold's Harper at age twelve. Though his master treasured his sensitive spirit, he knew music wasn't his real gift. But they coudln't really figure out what was. He did well with some instruments and he would sketch on peices of bark, but Pern had no real use for artists. He had a way with animals but was uniterested in the beastcraft. So he continued to teach him, hoping he show some spark of special talent and he was hopeful when Morsenten started composition, but fate struck, for Mirror Lake had just been founded and he was Searched for their very first clutch. The harpers were relieved, they were sure he'd Impress, he was such a good boy. And he did Impress brown Nimloth and his life was forever changed. His weyrling training progressed without any untoward incidents, besides the fall from Nimloth that earned him the scar along his jaw. He had a affair with a young woman from the hold that produced his son Senrial, but the woman was merely using him and he no longer sees his son, much to his sadness. He is cautiously seeking a new relationship..very cautiously.

Nimloth is a large brown, though not huge, and more supple than muscular. His hide is a copperish color deepening to maple on the belly. He is as thoughtful as his rider, but more fun-loving and more sarcastic. He is also a huge flirt, totally throwing his lifemate's cautious relationship building out of whack. He has moderate stamina, lasting maybe three fourths of a Fall, but his speed mostly makes up for it, and his courage. He's pretty vain.
