Birthplace: Small Cothold outside of Ista Hold
Location: Mirror Lake Weyr
Occupation/Rank: Weyrling/Journeywoman Smith
Physical Description
Nazlin is not a drop-dead gorgeous woman and looks more stately and elegant than downright beautiful. She stands at a rather impressive 5'9" and has narrow hips with a nearly flat chest. While many people prefer women that have more flesh on them, her height and thinness were found attractive in the household that she was raised in. She may appear to be a stuck-up cotholder's brat, but she is far more physically powerful than she appears. While she may look thin, she is powerful. Under her darkly tanned skin ripples sinewy muscles earned from hard work apprenticing under the local smith. Nazlin is capable of carrying and lifting heavy loads and is not afraid of hard work. She has a narrowly pointed jaw that is usually set in a stubborn way. Her hair is a pale blond color that appears nearly golden-white in the sun. If Nazlin is in the dark for an extended amount of time, her hair darkens to more of a wheaten color. She combines sensibility with vanity by keeping her wispy hair just below shoulder length. It's short enough to tuck up and out of the way, but long enough that she can style it fashionably.
Personality
Nazlin is cold and cunning. She cares for little in this world other than herself and family. Little time is spent on making friends. In her mind, friends are a weakness. Her theory is that the more friends she has, the more chances she has of being screwed over. Nazlin believes that staying socially distanced is the key to success, which might have been the way of the cothold she was raised in and the hold she was well acquainted with, but in the weyr it is another story and so far it has been difficult for her to handle. Though she may seem collected on the outside, a lot of times she is panicking on the inside. Her distant attitude is so engrained in her mind that sometimes the desperate need to be close to someone and feel affection causes emotional upsets. It's not an illness, it's just a matter of Nazlin losing her pride and giving in to what she needs.
Background History
While fostering within the weyr was a common practice for most dragonriders, it was something that was viewed as foolish to at least one rider, and that rider was Losha. Losha, the rider to brown Gervith, gave birth around eight and a half months after her brown caught the green Mortith in flight. The flight resulted in pregnancy on Losha's part, and a bit of sexual confusion for Mortith's young rider T'sit. The confused young man had little to do with the decision of foster, so it was up to Losha to place her daughter Nazlin once she was born. Losha was known for being a bit of an extremist. She was firm in her belief that children could only end up being good riders if raised outside the weyr. This, she believed, ensured that the future riders would experience life outside the weyr and thus be able to better function when Searching or travelling to a Hold or small cothold. Losha was lucky enough to find a couple in charge of a cothold outside of Ista Weyr that was willing to take on young Nazlin.
Nazlin was raised in a household where status was clearly defined. Each person had his or her own role that he or she was expected to fulfill. And not just fulfill, but fulfill to perfection. Nazlin, as the oldest daughter, regardless of her being a foster child, was originally planned to be used as wife material. As an expectant wife, she was destined to be used to strengthen bonds between the small cothold that she lived in and the surrounding cotholds and the Hold itself. However, Nazlin proved from an early age to have a sort of intelligence that her foster father Gervain dared not give away. Her foster father was an old man even when she was young. Despite his weakening health, he was sharp-eyed and crafty. Gervain lacked the intelligence that would come with education and schooling, but he was cunning and a crafty old man. He decided to keep Nazlin around and see how she could otherwise work for the weyr.
One might think that it would be difficult to be raised by her foster mother and her foster father's mistress, however, this was never the case. Shada and Portas were both intelligent women and it was from them that Nazlin developed much of her cunning. Both were genuinly fond of Gervain though he had married Shada while she was very young and became involved with Portas who was near Shada's age. Both women were like-minded and often seemed more like sisters than wife and mistress.
While growing up, there were few things the family kept private. The cothold was a very open place and they were very involved in the people that worked with and for them. Never a day was spent being lazy and Nazlin, as well as her other siblings, were apprenticed out at young ages. Nazlin was shown to be proficient in smithing. Her half brother Leoss proved to also be attuned to the craft. Together, they worked under the local smith and proved to both be very skilled students. Leoss was better with heavy forming while Nazlin was skilled at creating decorative daggers and other such items. Their older foster brother Morheen was fostered off to the Hold and worked with the Archivists there, being that he was very good with writing and was very much interested in history. These things were always celebrated with the others of the cothold. The apprenticing of Nazlin's youngest sister Nashat was celebrated with a feast, as was her other sister Gersha's rise to the rank of Senior Apprentice.
However, there was one event that was kept secret by the family. Gersha, starting at the age of fifteen turns, began weakening. The process was something that could not be halted by the family nor by the healers. While they struggled to heal Gersha, the girl became worse and worse. Eventually, Gersha began to suffer extreme amounts of pain. Even numbweed could only dull the pain. The sight was a terrible one to see. It remains only a rumor in the cothold, but some say that on the night of Gersha's death, her family was seen gathered around her, speaking endearments to her. A healer supposedly was the one to administer a drug that would allow her to slip peacefully away. However, the fact of this remains a closely guarded family secret. To others, it is mere rumor.
Life seemed to hit Nazlin and her family with sudden, unexpected things. Nazlin, Leoss, and Nashat were Searched one day by Ista Weyr's searchrider. However, there was already an excess amount of candidates so they were advised to remain at home until they could be transfered to a new weyr. Leoss was originally planned to inherit the cothold, but he decided he would rather try for Impression and gave up his inheritence to Morheen. Morheen, who was prematurely engaged to Ista Hold's youngest daughter, Csardrita, gladly took the role of future cotholder.
It was something he didn't have to wait long for. Gervain, who was slowly dying, finally passed away in his sleep almost a turn after his three foster children were Searched. Around this time, marital problems between Csardrita and Morheen became obviously apparent. Csardrita was young and headstrong, preferring to have her freedom while Morheen believed her place was in the home to have children. Nazlin often stuck up for Csardrita, as did Portas and Shada. She thought Morheen's attitude towards Csardrita to be idiotic, since the woman was fully capable of ruling whether or not Morheen was there to guide her.
Shortly after Gervain's death, a searchrider from Mirror Lake Weyr appeared to check over Nazlin and her siblings again. Mirror Lake Weyr had sent out a searchrider based on the suggestion of Ista's searchrider. Ista Weyr had heard of Mirror Lake's need for candidates, and since they were overflowing with candidates themselves, they recommended that Mirror Lake check out Nazlin, Leoss, and Nashat. They were given a second stamp of approval, and so was Csardrita. A fight exploded upon the family scene. Morheen refused to let his new wife leave the cothold after dragonrider fantasies, as he called them. Nazlin stepped up to bat and fiercely defended her sister-in-law, though there was little need. Csardrita was fully capable of handling herself. Nazlin was surprised and encouraged by the young woman's plotting mind when communications from Ista Hold came back. Csardrita's father was horrified by how his daughter was being treated, though obviously the treatment was exaggerated in her letters. He demanded a disslution of the wedding and called for the allowance of his daughter to do as she willed.
This was where Leoss stepped up as the brotherly figure. Nazlin was proud of her brother, who soothed Morheen's pride by telling him of a young woman, another youngest daughter, who was looking to be married. Of course, after hearing the description of the availible girl, Morheen looked forward to pursuing a new marriage with an attractive and younger woman. Nazlin cared little for what happened to him. She knew either way, Shada and Portas would be there to control the cothold should Morheen mess up. With a clear mind, she joined Leoss, Nashat, and Csardrita in moving to Mirror Lake Weyr.

Dragon Info
Name: Heccath
Color: Green
Age: Hatchling (4.20.1286)
Description
Heccath is a much larger than average green.
Massive
and bulky, she would probably be better suited for a brown hide.
Fully
grown, she reaches around forty-four feet in length, larger than the
biggest greens and the smallest browns. She is fairly bulky but
also
proportional with it. Her limbs and flight muscles are very
powerful, and
this power is balanced out by a massive wingspan. With size,
however,
she has given up the ability to maneuver like her smaller sisters.
But
she does fly longer and further than any other green.
Heccath is big and beautiful, and not afraid to
let
others know. Her hide is a medium shade of lime green that is fairly
bright and resplendent when freshly scrubbed. Most of her hide is
even in
color and free of scratches and mars. However, she does have some
markings that make her unique in appearance. The edges of her wing
sails
are a much darker lime green, looking as if they have soaked in a
dark
green dye. The fingers on her front paws are also much darker, again
making it appear as if she has dipped them into a vat of dye. Her
tail,
from about halfway down to the end, is the same dark shade of lime
green
as her fingers and wing sail edges. The only other markings Heccath
has
is a type of freckling that dots her face, neck, back, haunches, and
the
topside of her wing sails. These little freckles are darker than the
rest
of her hide and are heavier on her face and back portions.
Vain is a nice term for Heccath. Egotistic would
perhaps describe her better. She has a smug personality and is not
afraid
to tell others that she finds herself better than them, though these
comments are mostly made towards other greens and even the golds.
Her
size makes her bold, thus she is not afraid to tempt the anger of her
smaller green sisters or her larger gold sisters. Heccath could
adequately be called an ‘ice queen’. She is cold and insensitive to
most
other dragons unless they are of some sort of interest towards her.
Mainly, she is cool towards any dragon smaller than her. Browns and
bronzes are worth being nice too since they may end up a mate to her,
but
smaller browns, blues, and greens are often viewed with a little bit
of
distaste. The same goes for golds. She finds herself to be much more
beautiful than the egg-layers and believes she would make a better
gold
than half of those who have the shiny hide. Not at
all discreet, unless she had something to gain or Nazlin has
something to
gain, if someone asks her opinion on something, she will give it in a
blunt fashion. Heccath hates to be wrong but has learned that hissy
fits
get her nowhere, thus its better to act in a calm fashion until she
can
rant to her rider in private.
Intelligent and quick thinking, she excels at mastering the
tasks
given to her but her pride is a major downfall. She is more apt to
risk
being hurt than most other dragons because if she fails to show that
she
is willing to do something, she may end up looking like a coward.
Heccath adores Nazlin and though she thinks her rider is the absolute
best
that doesn’t keep her from bragging to Nazlin about herself or her
feats.
Nazlin has learned to simply grin and bear what her green is saying.
Especially when what she is saying is catty. Heccath loves mating
flights
and enjoys the thrill of leading on lusting males. A fairly sexual
creature herself, she likes to draw out the flights as long as she
can
since she deserves the best and any male that can’t keep up with her
is
not worth the trouble. Heccath grumbles over golds being able to lay
eggs. She thinks her hatchlings would be much more worthy than most
of
the hatchlings that come from any other
female dragon. But since she is not allowed to reproduce, she
simply
tries to find other ways that she might be able to upstage the other
females.
