Physical Description

Rhuadan is naturally very fair of skin with no freckles but he eventually darkens to a ple tan over the course of a summer if he's careful. His eyes are pale green, like new leaves, and very clear with a slight upward slant. and his hair is black. He wears it just above his shoulders as its slightly curly, but when he's with patients, he ties it back. He's about 5' 11" and he's lean and supple, like a feline. He's often compared to the graceful housecats that keep the mice away both for his green eyes, and his agilty. He has long dexterous fingers that are stronger than they seem. Rhuadhan has has a handsome face with a narrow nose slightly upturned, and a naturally upturned and generous mouth above a pointed chin. The overall impression is strikingly handsome, he looks like a cat whose been into the cream..poised, confident and knowing how good he looks. He makes an effort to be clean and though he doesn't have a huge amount of clothes, the ones thaat he has are all cut to show him in the best light.

Personality

Rhuadan is very quick. He has a quick mind, he walks quickly, and his hand guestures are quick..flickery even. He wants to be first in everything. When he does speak, which isn't that often, he talks quickly too, though his voice is low and soft. He has a good deal of pride, he knows he is handsome, he knows he is smart, he knows he is good at what he does. But he's not arrogant, he won't hold it over anyone. He holds himself to a high standard, and expects the same of everyone else. He is, in fact, very much of an idealist. He beleives the world should run a certain way...and is surprised when it doesn't. Of course, after a lifetime of dissapointment, he is a bit bitter, but he hasn't relaxed his standards. This makes him hard to impress. He always both expects better from you and is equally sure you'll only fail him in the end. He is very compassionate with his patients as long as they do what he says, but he does not heal because he is compassionate, but because it is a science..exact..perfect even, and he can get into a temper when it doesn't go the way he had planned. He gets joys out of battling the illness and winning, outr of making the person feel better. emphasis on making...and he doesn't like it when they don't comply. His temper is usually exercised alone, it is loud and full of expletives, but harmless. He hasn't had much luck with romance, because none of his lovers ever met his expectations..its not that he wants a pretty woman, he's pretty enough for both, or a docile woman even. Rhuadhan wants he and his lover to be perfect together..to never fight, to love the same things, to love eachother so much it hurts...he's quite the romantic..but once it seems like its not an eternal bond, he gives up. Luckily, not many women have gotten in the door or he'd have a trail of broken hearts in his wake. He is friendly in that he would never critisize you openly, though you can clearly see the censure in his eyes, and he tries to have a nice word for everyone. But he doesn't have many friends. eventually they get tired of feeling like they've failed him and they go away. he's very lonely, but unless hes forced out of his perfectionist habits, he'll probably always be alone.

Background History

Rhuadan was born as the middle child of a large family in Southern Boll Hold. They were mostly fisherman and Rhuadan grew up with the sea as a constant presence. In such a large brood, he was ignored, as often as not, but it didn't bother him too much. His harpers teachers praised him for his intelligence and skillful fingers and they saw for him a bright future, but when he was young, his only ambition was to be a fisherman like his father. Then tragedy struck. A storm brewed up from nowhere on august morning and took his father and two of his brothers down with it. A third brother was saved, only to die of his wounds before the Healer, busy with many storm-wrought injuries, could arrive. Ten year old Rhuadan was crushed, though his father had been nearly a stranger, his brothers had looked out for him. He grew to hate the sea very quickly after this, seeing it/her as a malevolent being ready to strike you down when you weren't looking. This is also when he formed the desire to be a healer. They took him quickly enough for his apprenticehsip, seeing his intelligence, but many of the healers were shocked at how a twelve-year old had shut down his emotions. Rhuadan was as clinical as any jaded master healer. His teachers thought to open him up with close attention and praise, which indeed eventually brought back his compassionate nature, but they despaired of getting him to relax the high standards he had for himself and everyone else. For him, failure is not an option. In any case, he excelled in his lessons, but his romantic life was a shambles. He had many girls after him and had in fact three or four lovers during his apprenticeship, but all of them grew tired of him quickly. He had his first experience when he was fourteen, with an oldser healer just back from her first posting as a journeyman. It was really more of a one night stand after a gather than anything serious, but strangely enough, once Osyna had reached her new hold, she found she was pregnant. However, she saw no reason to tell Rhuadan and raised the girl on her own. later marrying and having twin boys. They have never spoken, so he has no idea. He made journeyman at eighteen, and had several postings before becoming a sr. journeyman. At one of his early posting, he was sent to Ista Weyr to learn more about Thredscore injuries. He hated it there,never far from the sound of pouding surf, but something good did come of it. One of the riders had managed to Impress a gold firelizard some turns ago and when she clutched, he gave a cuople of the eggs to the Healers, feeling that they would be a help. But Rhuadan's master had no time for such nonsense, so he said, and he gave his egg over to his pupil, Rhuadhan, and it hatched into a little green. No one would have suspected that the cold young healer had the empathy to Impress even a firelizard, but he loves Ngaio with all the affection he denies everyone else. That said, he has tried to aviod having any more coastal postings. But now that he is a sr. journeyman, the masters have taken it upon themselves to cure him of his phobia. He was then sent to Lyra Cove Hold. He protested, seeing how close to the ocean it was, but his masters insisted.

Description

Ngaio is perhaps the only thing that Rhuadan doesn't expect more of, he finds her quite perfect as she is, having a a more emapthic connection with her than most firelizard owners. She is a large green, and emearald colored dappled with light and dark patches like the sun through leaves. Ngaio is very clever for a green and she takes directions well. She is happy-go-lucky, very affectionate, and nnot too much of a gossip, though quite vain. In short, she is everything Rhuadan wishes a lover to be and she's less work.
