The Mega Traverse

The Mega Traverse was located at the Tropics area at Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, CO. This broad area was a favorite local hangout on cooler days, as the wall faced south and collected warmth from the sun. Indeed, in his book Colorado Bouldering, Phillip Benningfield described this area as "one of the state's best offerings" for winter rock climbing.

Recently, the authorities have decided that the entire Tropics area must be blasted and buried as part of the dam renovation, and the area was recently closed for the duration of the construction. No one is sure what will remain, but it is clear that all of the popular climbs at the Tropics will never be climbed again. In tribute to this fine climbing area, I present the Mega Traverse - demonstrated by Carol.
