"A Father's Diary"
Part Two
Diego, my son, my son
I see the hurt in your face
Every time I criticized your actions,
Hoping you would be the cabellero
That this father's heart desires
Not merely the scholar you had become.

The dark outlaw has shown the very courage
And boldness that I had seen
In you as you had grown up with.
And yet, I don't know
Who is this infamous outlaw,
The protector and friend of the people.

But as my stubborness and pride
Nearly cost me my life
As I fought with the evil tyrant
Who had imprisoned my friends.
For El Zorro came and fought
To save this old man's life.

As this upstart highwayman
Bound my wounds,
He was so close
That I could have touch his mask.
I told this total stranger
My dreams and desires for my son.

As I started to touch his mask,
He gently grabbed my hand
And shook his head.
I smiled and told him,
As I began to lose consciousness,
I respected his decision.

But my dreams, my son,
They had become so real
As I began to put pieces together,
I began to look for signs:
A supposed broken guitar string,
A shocked look on your face.

A clue here and there:
Your disappearances at times
Wherever Zorro shows his face,
A forgotten memory coming
back to me;
The hidden passages in the house
Shown to me as a child
By my own father.

There I found the hidden room
Next to your room.
A black cape and outfit
With the brightly shiny sword on the table.
And down the stairs, to the cave,
I found the black spirited stallion.

As I watched Bernardo carefully,
I realized he knew more than usual.
I smiled when he thought
No one was watching
And noticed he can hear
As I listened to you speaking to him.

I thought my heart would burst with pride
As I learned that my son had not changed at all.
As I know that you wanted me safe,
To keep me from harm and danger.
Ah. my son, you are your father's heart
Ride on, El Zorro, my son, ride on!
