Zorro's Poem for Bernardo
Diego and Bernardo
"Bernardo"

If there was a friend so loyal,
Who would risk his life for me
Then he would have been a man
That I am so very proud of.

Not only is he my manservant
But also my trusted friend
Confidant, teacher, and also
My second pair of eyes and ears.

Even though he cannot speak a word,
He pretends to be both deaf and mute
He uses his hands and expressions
To tell us what we need to know

He keeps my sword shiny and sharpen
My black outfit, mask and cape
Hung on the wall and ready to go
When the time is right for me

Take care of Tornado
My black and spirited stallion
Make sure that he's well fed
And his black coat shiny like night.

He always keeps my anger checked
And my temper under control
As he knows so very well
That I must keep my idle self

For I cannot reveal my true
And secret identity
To anyone who knows me
As Diego de la Vega

For I am El Zorro, the fox
Who tries to protect my people
From all cruelty and tyranny
And all the danger involved

I know that I am just one man
For supernatural, I am not,
But with the help of one man
Who would risk his life for me

And of that man, my servant
Whose one name is Bernardo
For as my and Zorro's friend
I gladly toast my glass to you.
