Diversions: Snapshot
It had been a long time since she had felt this safe, protected from the dangers of sliding. Now, she was in his embrace, dancing the night away, but morning would soon announce the time for departure. She couldn’t bring herself to tell him that she would be leaving soon and forever. She felt it was better this way.
“When am I going to see you again?” he asked as the song was nearing the end.
She listened to his heart. “Let’s not talk about that now. Let’s live in the now.”
He giggled as he dipped her. “Very well.”
“Hey! This isn’t the tango!”
Pulling her up, he murmured, “Well it is now.”
“I don’t want this night to end.”
“It doesn’t have to end.”
The twinkle in his eyes made her laugh. “Stop it. I’m serious.”
“And so am I.” He twirled her once around as the song ended.
She looked him in the eyes and lied. “Hey, I gotta freshen up. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
“Don’t be too long or I’ll have to search the premises for you.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t be long.” She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. “There’s more where that came from.”
“You tease.”
Smiling, she blew him a kiss. “Remember me like this.”
“Oh baby, I will.”
His smile brought back memories for Wade. She quickly turned around before her tears fell once again.
Ten minutes later, he went to look for her, but she had disappeared without leaving a trace.
“One day I’ll find you again, Wade. One day. On my badge, I’ll find you.”
His cell rang breaking the spell. With annoyance, he answered, "Not now Jordan!" then hung up.
