" Today, Saturday, April 2nd, 2005 was the second 'sandwich run' I've been on. I think it was a very different experience from the first one I went on (3 years ago). The atmosphere, the people, the weather, everything I saw...it really got me thinking. Although it was snowing massively today, and although every single one of us got soaked, God never left us for a minute. Things may turn out differently or unwantingly from what we expect. For example, today I prayed that it would be a nice sunny warm day...but, it turned out to be the complete opposite. For some reason, I really wanted to go on this sandwich run. Last night at around 10pm I searched really hard for a ride. But I don't know, I felt like I had to go today...even though our group did not find a single homeless soul around. In a way, it kind of brought me joy seeing that the homeless found shelter and were safe and sound from the coldness. But from what I heard from the other group, they saw homeless people bundled up and sheltered in un-ventilated areas which could be very unhealthy to them. Also...we saw other people passing out Bibles which was very touching too. They were also trying to help others just like us, except the difference was, they were trying to reach out to everyday people. I pray that from what people saw from our second group that actually accomplished passing out sandwiches that, we Christians are God's "promoters" and that they can feel His love through seeing us suffering through the cold but also helping others in need. This has been a great experience for me, and I do not see this as a "failed" project, but as an opportunity to get out of our "comfort zones". |
