Rollerball

Sport - Rollerball is an extreme team sport that is completely banned on Earth and most colonies because of it's violent nature and often tragic outcomes.

History - Rollerball is a colonist sport, invented on L3. It's popularity spread through out the colonies, eventually making it to Earth. The events that took place within the games disgusted the Earth Sphere, who banned the game from areas of their ruling. On Earth, watching filmed rollerball sessions is considered illegal; though not on colonies controlled by the ES. As of now, the only colonies that can legally hold rollerball tournaments are XXX6-L2, 03392-L2, VISTA-L2, IOIII-L2, 003LZ-L3, 893U-L3, 9372-L3, PANTH-L3, all of L4, 9833-L6, and all of L7.

The Goal - The goal is to score points. A metal ball, the "roller ball" is released into the ring at the start of the game. The teams are expected to capture the ring and throw it at a metal hoop that most closely resembles a gong. The ball must be thrown hard enough into the hoop to trigger the alarm, scoring the team a point. Scoring a point is known as "making a touch down."
- NOTE: the ball must run around the ring twice by the members of the shoot team before they can qualify to gain a point.

The Ring - Rollerball is played in a glass dome, the ground of the standium resembles a skateboarding ring, with slopped walls, jump ledges, and secondary riding levels. The ring is an oval shape with a figure eight track outlined in yellow and black stripped tape. A secondary slope is located above the ring, the second level is basically a metal plateform leading into a glass "rabbit hole" that slides back off into the first floor. The jump between the bottom level and the second is tweleve and a half feet.

Teams - There are tweleve members on a rollerball team. Only seven players can be on the ring at one time. The couch of the team can call in and out players whenever desires, much like hockey. This is known as "switching out."

Equiptment - Because of the violent nature of the game and number of accidents, rollerball players are padded down with as much armor as possible. The required protection equiptment include a helmet, knee, elbow, and chest pads. Spine armor, cups, and other forms of protection are not a nessariary, but recommended.
On each roller ball team there is at least one motocyclist. The maxium number of motorcycles that can be on the ring from each team at once is two. Motorcyclists had handles on the back of their seats, giving the other players an area to grab on and "skim a ride."
All other members on the ring are put on roller blades.
Players are allowed to have ball catchers, or "hylains". Hylains are cupped hockey sticks often made of metal, used to pick up the ball from the ground and throw to another team mate. The ball can be carried by a hylain. Hylains can also be used as weapons.

Rules - Players are allowed to knock other players down, run them over, punch, grab, tackle, ect as long as the attack on the other player is done in sport of the game and as means of keeping them from carrying the ball or attacking another teammate of your own. A player cannot attack another player out of rage, once a player is down, they are to be left alone. In other words, only valid tackles are considered legal in rollerball, everything else is considered a "foul".

Copywrite - If it hadn't already been noticed, the game rollerball was taken from the movie, Roller Ball™.
