A Jaridian fleet is on its way to Earth, so the Taelons pack up and leave. With humanity in a mess trying to cope, Liam becomes the only person who can stop a Jaridian invasion before it starts.
Brilliant concept, I hear you thinking. Er, no. As it stands, there’s a lot of potential, but it never really comes to anything. When Liam helps some Jaridians portal off the mothership by mistake, he decides to retrieve them himself, with mixed results. The Jaridians eventually come to find him, thereby saving hours of hunting time. The problem is that there’s only a small group of them as the fleet is a hologram.
Yes, just as you think something might be happening to move the show along, there’s no real threat and everything reverts to normal. And more to the point, if the Taelons are just planning to leave if there’s trouble, why are they so worried about the arrival of the Jaridians? It just means that they won’t finish experimenting on the humans.
What might be an interesting plot about the human dependency on Taelon technology is completely wasted, with it getting a couple of quick mentions as Liam continues his search. The only notable aspect is the relationship between Liam and Da’an, which reaches a new level of understanding here. Da’an reveals that a peace message was intercepted from the Jaridians before it reached Earth (more a cheap way to bring the episode to a close than a revelation, however), causing Liam to wonder just why he ever trusted the Taelon. But if that’s all the episode has to offer, it’s rather lightweight and a little pointless.
