Street has been injected with nanoprobes so that Sandoval can find out the code to release the secret of Ma'el's core energy equation. Can she escape his clutches without compromising her place in the Resistance?
I've not been sure what to make of Street since she appeared at the start of the season, but this episode gives a strong insight into her mind and reveals a side not previously seen: she finds it hard to trust people because of something her parents did to her as a child. Therefore, she runs a simulation to see what would happen if she took matters into her own hands.
It's a clever ploy, as the change to the simulation is so subtly done that you're not quite sure whether it is all happening or not. Tate's death is sudden and unexpected, and there are plenty more surprises as Sandoval finds the Resistance base, Da'an betrays Liam and the major is executed. Admittedly this last one does rather clue you in, but it also leaves things unsure in the second half of the episode where Street realizes she has to trust those around her and seeks Liam and Renee's help. The way in which they come through for her is good to see, and although we don't find out exactly what Street's parents did to her (although Renee seems to know, so maybe I missed something), we do get to see some scary images of her being taken away from those she loves.
The chase for Street is fast and exciting, packed with twists, even in the real version, and gives Melinda Deines a chance to show off just how good she is. She holds the episode together well, and her discussions with her holo-self are a clever way to show what's going on in her mind. It's a shame that the nanoprobes don't stay in for longer, if only because Sandoval could become more of a threat, but I suppose it's his own fault for making ones that are visible as they move under the skin...
