LEXX: Moss

Xev, Stan and Kai are picked up by Field Commander Moss, a man determined to bring down the corrupt and evil presidency from within. However, once the LEXX crew has helped him, he has no problem court martialling them.

At least there's actually a fair amount going on in this episode, but eventually it just comes back to one plot and a not very interesting one at that. Things are going swimmingly for a while, with Moss showing his true colours early on and then increasingly demonstrating how loopy he is with his catchphrase 'Remember Waco', his paranoia about the number 666, which he can find everywhere, and eventually his performance as prosecutor, defendant and judge in Stan, Xev and Kai's trial. It's a great performance from Stephen McHattie, who brings the right blend of toughness and insanity to the role.

The return of Prince is also interesting, especially the fact that he now seems to be stuck on a TV in the White House. Exactly what has happened is a bit of a puzzle, and it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. There is certainly a feeling in this episode that things are moving on, but there's also a slight vibe that no one is quite sure where the whole thing will eventually end up. There's still an element of playing for time here, and once again the crew winds up heading for the LEXX and wanting to leave again, only kept about because of their lack of the Key. It's becoming increasingly tricky to prise the characters into a story because of their desire to steer clear of Earth, so what will happen this time? Moss isn't a bad story; there's certainly some good stuff here, but it needs, as per usual, some tightening up.
