LEXX: Lyekka vs Japan

Xev and Kai travel to Earth to obtain a new cryo-pod unit and end up in Japan, where a meteor of Lyekka's race has crashed. As Xev seeks enlightenment, a giant Lyekka sets about tearing up Japan.

This episode seems to be two ideas that don't really belong together. An odd concept, the monks that Xev meets up with are a very LEXX-like odd bunch, selling organs that they allow to be harvested from their still-living bodies. It's the kind of nasty idea only this show can get away with, but it seems to be there for no particular reason except to fill time before Lyekka's arrival. Xev is once again in danger, and the monk that Kai meets is weird but quite funny and then it's all over. There's no real closure and not really an awful lot actually going on aside from Xev being felt up to see what her body parts are like.

The Lyekka part is quite cool, with some good special effects as she stomps all over Tokyo. Kai's approach to defeating her is obvious and something of a surprise when it works, and Stan's simplistic but effective solution seems to be reasonable enough. The giant carrot is also pretty cool, for the short amount of time it's around. The thing is, is there much point to all this? Earth is in a mess, but the LEXX crew can just leave the inhabitants to finish off their planet, I suppose. But with one episode to go, I thought Lyekka's people would be the threat, although the asteroid at the end suggests they still may be the death of our world.

The best part of the whole thing is Prince's dire weather forecasts for Earth that Stan watches. 'It's raining, it's pouring, the weather's crack whoring' are much better lyrics and he provides an injection of fun and nastiness into a rather lacklustre episode. Still, I'm curious to see how the series ends. In fact, I think I'll nip off and find out now...
