LEXX: Yo Way Yo

A giant asteroid of Lyekka's people attaches itself to Earth and must be destroyed, if only because the LEXX is dying of old age and Stan and Xev will need somewhere to live. Can they save Earth? And just who is Prince really?

The final episode of LEXX, and as a last episode it's pretty good. What you mustn't expect is for everything to be resolved. I'm still not entirely clear on how everything we've seen this season fits together, and things turn out here much as I would have expected, with the end of the Earth, the death of Kai in a heroic act of sacrifice and the destruction of Lyekka's threat. The only real surprise is the death of the LEXX itself. What it doesn't feature is the end of Prince, or really explain why he maintains a corporeal presence on the ship that Priest and Bunny hijack. I have a feeling that while Prince represents all that's dark in the universe, the LEXX and its crew represent all that is light. How true that really is, I'm not sure, but there's a feeling of balance at the end of the episode.

There are a lot of things I enjoyed here. The fact that it was 790 that finally took out Earth, although I really feel he should pay the price for that one, Kai's sacrifice, Prince's essentially vindictive gift, the effects, which in the main are fantastic, and little LEXX. I wasn't quite so keen on some of the early padding with Priest, which could have been dropped to provide a better ending for the character, and I was expecting a more final ending than this, which still leaves the ultimate fate of Stan and Xev untold. Maybe there's a TV movie in store a bit down the line if it's wanted.

Overall then, pretty good. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, and it's a good send-off to the team. It's not perfect, but then, what is? And I bet in a few weeks' timeThe X-Files doesn't wrap up a damn thing in its season finale...
