A film about homesteaders which has the lazy rhythm of
a ballad in telling its tale of the widower (Holden), the
bondswoman (Young) he marries but treats as a servant, and
the roving cowboy friend (Mitchum) who opens his eyes by seeing
- and treating - her as a woman. Although slightly marred by
an Indian raid dragged in as an unnecessary catalyst (but very
well done), it's a real charmer, held together by Mitchum's
electric presence as the laconic interloper with a gently roving
