CWN No.8

This car started out life as a Bachmann flatcar. I fashioned the coregated sheet metal shed using techniques borrowed from other large scalers and their websites. The skider was a free lance scratch build. I manufactured the general clutter for this car as well. Only the hammer and talc can were purchased. The couplers were changed to Kadees. I gave it a paint job consisting of a greyish undercoat and washes of black and various brown paints to suit my taste. Over that I applied washes of black ink. The various castings were treated with patina to provide the rust colour. The plastic parts requiring rust were painted with real rust which was over sprayed with dull coat. A fellow COGRA member needs to be credited with the idea of using real rust to simulate rust. CWN lettering was added. The letters were made by printing them out on coventional paper, adding a background the same colour, almost, as the car. The back of the paper was sanded until I was left with tissue paper-like letters. They were then cut out as carefully as possible, CAed to the car and dull coated. I was quite happy with the results. This method of lettering is also not my original idea, rather borrowed from fellow Large Scalers including the same COGRA member who showed me the rust trick. Thanks to everyone for their assistance and guidance.
