Another DC day...
I slept fairly late today, but after I woke up and got ready, I went and
found somewhere to get my hair trimmed up! :) My bangs were
getting rather long and annoying so I figured it was time to go. This
was the first time I'd had my hair cut my a male... he was really good and
was very good about making sure what he was doing to your hair was alright
with you... He also was very complementary of the color of my hair and how
good of condition it was in... He actually seemed very surprised that my
hair is naturally colored.
Anyway, after I got my hair cut I went back into dc again. I got
off at L'Enfant plaza and stopped at the First Union to get some money.
Then I walked to the National Building Museum. En route I took a few
pictures... It was such a nice day, I couldn't go without taking a
picture of the capitol. The picture doesn't do it justice... the sun
was reflecting off of the surface of the dome... it was very pretty.

A picture looking back onto Pennsylvania Ave...

Then I passed what I believed to be the US Surpreme Court
building at the time ... but in actuality it was just the Supreme Court of
DC... all the same it was a pretty cool building.

Then, after grabbing a bite to eat for lunch at a McDonald's
I passed, I reached the National Building Museum. The exhibits were
kinda neat, but the building was even more impressive...

Then, I walked across the street to the Judiciary Square
Metro station and rode to Union Station. Right next door to Union
station is the National Postal Museum, so I went in to explore the exhibits
there. It was a pretty small museum... Only a few exhibits just to
explain the history of mail in the US. The picture below is a picture
of the upper level of the building the postal museum is located in.

Then I went back to Union Station to go to the bookstore
there. I bought two books! Now maybe I'll do some more pleasure
reading! I picked up The Life of Pi and I even broke down and
got the first Harry Potter book to see what all the hype is about... it was
on sale for about $5 so I didn't figure it was too bad of a purchase. Also while I was there, I walked past this store and saw that they sell t-shirts with the map of the Metrorail system printed on them! LOL. Maybe if I manage to get off at every metro stop by the end of the summer I'll go back and get one! (very unlikely that I'll finish all the stops... )
I took the first picture looking through the archways in front of the
entrance to Union Station. The second picture is of the dome of the
Capitol Building from Union Station

I caught the metro from Union Station to Federal Triangle
and walked to the Old Post Office Pavilion. This was much more
impressive than I had expected. I thought it was just going to be some
shops in an old building... but I even got to go up to the top of the tower!

Office:

Finally, I decided to go back towards Maryland. So I
walked from the Old Post office Pavilion to the Archives-Navy Memorial Metro
stop. On the way I passed the National Archives. The first
statue says "What is Past is Prologue," and the second says "Study the
Past".

And I made it back to College Park about 6pm. I think
I've made a very respectable dent in my list of places in DC to see by the
end of the summer. Provided I don't stay the extra weekend after RISE
ends, I only have one more weekend actually in DC, since next weekend I'll
be in NY and two weeks after that in Oshkosh with the Design Team. |
