Executive Reports

Statistician – Keith reported that all is going well and there were no late score sheets.  Teams were again reminded to circle the team name.

Public Relations – The following teams were fined for not calling in scores.

June 30 – Cap’t Eli’s

July 7 – Spryfield Q B

July 21 – Cue and Cushion B

Treasurer – Jan handed out the most current financial report.  The following teams owe dues.

Cap’t Eli’s - $340.00

Cue and Cushion A - $325.00

Cue and Cushion B - $65.00

Shannon A - $240.00

There is an error on the financial report.  Shannon B owes $10.00 in fines, not $20.00.

Jan noted that there are some teams that owe the league money that are not in attendance tonight.  These teams are now in arrears tonight’s dues as well.

Dale advised that any teams that owe money will be contacted tonight and be required to pay what they are in arrears.  These teams will be suspended from play until money is paid.

There is a scoring formula in place in the event that any teams have to forfeit because of money owed.

Old Business

The tables at Captain Eli’s have been fixed.

Helen asked where the Cyril Abs memorial tournament will be held in the future.  Dale advised that it will be held at a Q club.

New Business

We have received two quotes for the banquet.  Brewster’s and Centennial Legion.  Dale went over both quotes.  Neither quote includes entertainment.

Centennial Legion is located on the #7 highway in Dartmouth.  The rental of the hall is $200.00.  The meal is $12.60 incl tax and there is a choice of 6 entrees with vegetables, dessert and juice included in the price.  Drinks are $3.05 for beer and shots and $2.50 for wine.

Brewster’s is located on the Bedford Highway.  There is no charge for renting the space.  The meal is hip of beef and is $14.95 plus tip and gratuity.  This price does not include dessert.  Beer and shots are $4.00.

There was a discussion about both locations with many pros and cons noted.  Centennial Legion was less expensive but there was some concern about the size and access to pool tables.  The ladies banquet was held there and there were mixed feelings about the location.  Brewster’s is more expensive but some teams felt we should support a club in the league.  Access to the pool tables was seen as a plus with some teams.  Both locations are only available on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.  It was decided to have the banquet on a Friday night instead.

A vote by secret ballot was held and the majority of the votes went to Brewster’s.

The Cyril Abs memorial tournament was held on July 24 and turn out was good.  The executive congratulated the following teams:

1st place – Kelly Brimicombe and Mike Weagle

2nd place – Janet Ritcey and Doug Brown

3rd place – Tanya Gadsden and Gordie Lynch

The following teams were fined for not sending the required 4 players:

Almon A $20.00

Cap’t Eli’s $10.00

Cue and Cushion A $30.00

Dave Doolittle’s $40.00

Shannon A $10.00

Shannon B $10.00

Spryfield Q B $20.00

It was brought to our attention that the website said that only 3 people were required from each team.  It should have states 3 weeks of play required to be eligible.  The executive has stated several times that 4 people are required and it is also listed on the information and contact sheet each team received.  All fines stand.

The website has been updated and there is a link for banquet information that will be updated as more information becomes available.

Dale proposed the following format for playoffs.

A division – top 4 teams all teams getting a bye during first week of playoffs

B division – teams finishing 5-8 with all teams getting a bye during first week

C division – teams finishing 9-14 with top 2 teams in this division getting a bye the first week.

Mike Madden made a motion to approve this format.  The motion was seconded by Rob Rogers.  All were in favor with none opposed and the motion was passed.

Helen asked how many weeks were needed to be eligible for playoffs.  Dale advised that 4 weeks were needed.

Don Gates would like to change Article 5 section 5.1 of the mixed league constitution.  Dale explained to the league that this section states that the president and vice president positions of the league must be mixed.  If the president is female then the vice president must be male and vice versa.  Donnie would like to change it to state that it must be a mixed executive, not necessarily mixed positions of president and vice president.

Dale advised that any changes to the constitution must be taken under consideration and cannot be voted on tonight.  It was asked that all team captains bring this to their teams for discussion.

Don Gates was asked to submit a price list for trophies.  Greg Johnson will present a quote.  The executive will take all quotes and make a decision on where to get the trophies.

Please bring any major awards to the next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20pm.  The next meeting is Sunday, August 22, 2004, at Almon Billiards 7:00pm.
