He came in after attendance was taken. The representatives for the two Shannon teams are reversed. Liliane is the team captain for A and Connie is team captain for B.
Tim Samson and Vikki Rowden motioned for the minutes to be accepted. There were none opposed to the motion.
Connie informed the league that Jan Thomas-Giles has had a change in her work hours and will be unavailable to come to some meetings. If anyone else would like the position of treasurer she will step down. Jennifer is able to accept the dues and take them to Jan who can then deposit them and produce a spreadsheet. There were no volunteers for Jan’s position and it was decided that Jennifer would collect dues and pass them to Jan.
The Cyril Abs memorial tournament will be held on July 23, 2005, at the Spryfield Q. A reminder to the teams that there is a minimum requirement of 4 players per team. Treasurer – Dues and bonds will be collected tonight. Only 1 payout so far for printing $45.00. We saved money by not printing rules, conduct and constitution. Liliane suggested that all new teams should be given a copy of these.
Dooly’s Burnside is not playing on the available 4x8s. It is stated that if 4x8s are available then league games must be played on these.
Dooly’s Burnside advised that one or their 4x8 tables is damaged so they must play on 41/2 x 9s. The executive confirmed that the table was damaged and they are allowed to use the larger tables.
Almon A and Dooly’s Kempt had an incident on the first night of play. Helen Wood and Leigh Ann Giles were playing a game and a situation game up where Leigh Ann asked for an arbitrator. Helen advised Leigh Ann that there was no arbitration in the MMPL and play continued. After the game Leigh Ann discovered that there is arbitration in the league and protested the game. Helen did not want to replay the game. Jennifer, team captain for Almon A, suggested that the game be replayed and situation be brought up to the league. The original scores would stand until the next meeting when the situation could be discussed. Helen was very upset at the situation and became quite vocal.
Helen at first refused to replay the game but agreed after speaking to Keith by telephone.
Keith spoke to Dale about the situation as Connie was away. Their view is that the game should have been protested when Helen said there was no arbitration and that by allowing play to continue Leigh Ann could not protest after the game had been completed. Both of these players have been in the league long enough to know the rules. The league agreed with Dale and Keith and the original scores will stand.
Almon A was very upset about Helen’s behavior and how it reflects on the league. A member of the Dooly’s staff commented on the behavior. The code of conduct and ethics has a section on player conduct during league play and Almon A is requesting a letter from the league to Helen about her conduct.
The executive will investigate the incident and decide if a letter should be issued. As captain of the team initiating the complaint, Jennifer will not take part in the investigation.
Last year’s most sportsmanlike player winner was removed from the banquet venue last year and she was abusive to the staff. The executive received several complaints and the Brewster’s staff was very upset about her behavior. Connie spoke to the league about the importance of conduct during league functions as your behavior reflects on the whole league.
Shannon B submitted a suggestion that coaching be allowed in this league. Shannon B has 13 rookies many are not familiar with all the rules. Coaching is not allowed in this league but it was mentioned that anyone could ask for a rule at anytime. Team captains are not allowed to tell a player how to shoot a ball but they may tell them a rule if asked. It was also mentioned that in this league most players will help out a new player by telling them rules and sometimes even calling fouls on themselves. It is not a requirement in this league to call fouls on yourself but many experienced players will help new players learn the game.
The meeting was then adjourned.
