One Reason

What do you seek?

Amid the rubble of the world

For surely it has fallen

I felt the tremor in my heart

The echoes have yet to fade

And my life has broken with it

Why do you laugh?

Have you so soon forgotten?

Do you live and let lie

Or are America’s tears you amusement?

I hate and yet I envy you

You who never felt and don’t feel

The pain of those attacked

In both body and mind

And what of you, consumed with fire

Do you seek to avenge me

All of America, or your own injured pride

Fight, deliver your justice

But your bombs do not quell

The ringing in my ears

Or the cries of a thousand lost souls

And you, cringing at home

Seeking safety placed far out of reach

You will not find it

Not in our society

I do not condemn you

Your fear is justified

But your quest is futile

That leaves me, and many others

For thousands died, and more suffer

We do not ignore the event

Want to avenge or fear it

What we seek, a thing so simple

A reason to stop crying

A tissue to dry tears, and a reason not to need them

For we still feel the trembling

The images are still there

When we close our eyes

Our heads still ache

With the shock of it all

And we have yet to find

That thing so hidden

So needed

One Reason
