CLIMBING

LINKS

Dave and I started the trip in the Salt Lake City area, climbing the quality routes of Big Cottonwood Canyon. We both agreed this was not only excellent climbing, but a great warmup/training ground for the upcoming Wind River Trip.

Earlier in the year, I practiced in the only place I could in Texas - Enchanted Rock.

Here I am rapping down after a successful climb of Bourbon Street (5.10a) in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Dave showing no rust leading the second pitch of High Dive (5.10b) in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Our next stop was Wind River, WY for a true test. It took two days for us to hike into the interior with 30kg packs on our backs. Dave and I starved ourselves since we stayed a day longer than we planned, and only brought food for exactly 5 days. The rugged terrain and sheer mass of these climbs were worth starving for.

This is the famous Wolf's Head in the Cirque, a fun climb we did on our second day.

A picture of me leading the first pitch of Wolf's Head (5.7).

Our next stop was Wild Iris, some awesome cliff climbing. We camped in the nearby town of Lander, Wyoming, right in the downtown park! We picked up a Danish hitchhiker on the way and lived in this park for 3 days. People would start cooking barbecues in the morning and that was our cue to go climb. After Wild Iris, we went to Devil's Tower, Wyoming, and ran into a huge Motorcycle festival. With every second person asking 'Are you going to climb the tower?', the permits required, and the 35C temperatures, the climb was excruciating. To make matters worse, I broke our water bladder on the first pitch! After the tower, we drove all the way back to Yosemite, California to complete some amazing climbs. Crescent Arch, Lucky Streaks, and Cry in Time Again were some noteable climbs achieved on this trip.
