Answers to Common Indiana Soil Questions

How do I get a copy of a county soil survey report?

Indiana soil survey reports can be found at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office in the county you are interested in. Some soil survey reports are out of print and may not be available. Your local NRCS office should be able to get you a photo copy of the soils information you require. Soil survey reports should also be on file at your local municipal, college, and school libraries as well.

Where is the official county soils data for my county located?

The official county soils data is located in the Field Office Technical Guide in your county NRCS office. This information takes precidence over any previously published soil data.

How do I get a copy of the digital soils data for my county?

NRCS is currently working with many city and county officials to digitize the soil survey reports and make them available in a common GIS format for land use planning. Many of these soil surveys can be downloaded from the SSURGO internet site in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Click here for a list of available Indiana Digital County Soil Surveys.
