Junior Showmanship is offered by
the AKC to boys and girls from 10 to 18 years of
age. The classes are divided into four groups:
Novice Junior, which is kids 10 to under 14 who
have not yet won three First Place wins with
competition. Novice Senior is the older age bracket, 14
to under 18 with the same win requirements as the
Novice Junior Class. The Open Junior and
Senior classes are the same age breakdowns as
previously explained, but who have accomplished three
First Place wins in a Novice class with competition.
I have only been
showing dogs for 14 months now and I am ranked in the top 20
in the Working Group in the nation! My first show I
was awarded a Second Place out of 5. In the next three
shows I achieved 3 First Place wins, with competition,
moving me out of the Novice class in less than 2 months.
In that time, I also was awarded Best Junior Handler
at the Piedmont Kennel Club show!
Since moving into
the Open
Junior class last October, I have
been awarded 6 First Place wins with competition
present and 2 more Best Junior Handlers!
As of Jan-July 2002 stats I am ranked #4 in
Boxer Junior Handlers in the US; #3 in North Carolina and #6
in South Carolina of all Juniors (not one particular
breed); and #18 of Juniors showing Working
breeds. I accomplished this all in just
a little more than a year's time!
I was recently
invited to participate in the 2002 AKC/Eukanuba National
Invitational Championship in Orlando, FL this
December!!! To qualify for this event you must have 5
wins in an Open class.
