Our Love
Story
When Robert
and I first met, it was in the winter of 91-92. He had just
gotten out of the army and had come home from Saudi Arabia and
was settling in to make his life here in Kentucky again. I had
just graduated in May of 91 and was working part time and going
to college at Western Kentucky University full time. I happened
to work with his step-brother at a local fast food place and when
Robert came in I was introduced. I must say the first things I
was thinking was, "My, he's a big 'un." :) I think he
was kinda shy at first (that's really hard to believe once you
know him) but he didn't really say a lot to me for a while.
Well, as
things went, we got to be friends first. We were both having
problems with the people we were seeing and we tended to talk to
each other about the things on our minds. I think that was a
really good thing, since we kinda got a feeling for what each
person was expecting out of a relationship too.
So, anyway,
by the time my birthday rolled around in February, he'd gotten
the nerve up to ask me out. Though we had to go out the day after
my birthday cause I had a previous date with someone from school!
I can honestly say though that the day after my
birthday felt more like the real thing than the actual day! He
took me to Nashville and we ate and strolled around the mall and
basically had a good time. I knew that night that I wanted
something more from this man! I'd prayed long and hard for the
Lord to send me someone that I had a lot of prerequisites for,
and he definately filled the bill!
So, when we
went for our second date, we went to see a movie, I can't
remember what it was, though I know I've got the ticket stubs put
back somewhere. We were driving back home and it was late and
it'd take about 30 minutes to get back home, so I laid my head in
his lap to rest while we drove. I was ready to sleep as he
stroked my hair so tenderly and had my eyes closed just enjoying.
I guess he thought I was sleeping cause I heard him whisper
"I love you, Regina". My heart was bursting!
We ended up
being together for a year before finally deciding on a date to
get married, and the funny thing was he told me to just pick a
date and it'd be fine with him. sooooo....... I said "ok,
next monday." (it was a week away!) He looked at me, laughed
and said "ok then."
Thank
goodness for his parents, they set up their house for us to have
a small ceremony there that night and we got to invite all the
family that could make it on such short notice. It was very nice
and very personal. I didn't even have any plans for anything!

This was
before the wedding....I think! You can tell how giddy we are, I
thought my face would crack from smiling so much!

This of
course is during the ceremony. We said our own vows and the thing
is we didn't know we'd be doing that til we got there, so
everything we said was out of the heart, and spur of the moment.
I got his
mother's wedding ring (she died when he was a senior in high
school) and a new band too. I wear them both along with the
diamond ring that my mom gave me for an engagement ring.
I remember
how I was thinking afterward, "I'm now a Scott, not a
Whitman anymore." and we as a newlywed couple went with his
parents out to a local restaurant and had a late dinner.
So it'll be
our 7th anniversary this coming March 2000, and I can say that
these have been great years. Of course not all roses, but we are
the best of friends, and are great counterparts for each other.
We enjoy being together and with our kids, and have alot of
ideals in common. We respect each other very much and he
constantly picks on me! :) Of course if he didn't I'd think he
was sick! hahaa Our kids are ga-ga over their daddy and can't
wait for him to get home each night!
I thank God
for his infinite wisdom in choosing my husband for me, I know I
could have never done such a good job!
