Scales should be played in complete octaves, winds tongued and strings detaché in the following rhythmical pattern:

Extra points are awarded for string scales which exceed the octave requirements for both Junior and Senior District. The Chromatic scale, played within the range designated below, should be slured in eighth note triplets.
Tempo for scales at the senior district level is MM quarter note = 100 (Trombone and Tuba at 72).
Tempo for scales at the junior district level is MM quarter note = 84 (Trombone and Tuba at 60).
The charts below clearly define the major scales and octave range required for each instrument.  Please read them carefully.
