Solo: Felix Mendelssohn- "The Nightingale"; SATB edited by Jeffrey Mason.
Sight Reading: The example will be in a comfortable range for each voice part. It will be in a major key, in 4/4 time. It will begin and end on the tonic. It will consist of scalar motion and triadic leaps. Rhythms may include whole, half, quarter and eighth notes, as well as dotted quarter/eighth combinations. Examples are posted below. Students will be given starting pitch and time to look at the example. All methods of sight singing are to be accepted; solfege, numbers, neutral syllable, etc. Scales: Nine Note do-re-do scales. Suggested scales to be used in "A" & "B" rooms: Soprano: Low C - High G. Alto: Low A - High D. Tenor: Low C - High G. Bass: Low A - High D. Adjudicators give triad (tonality) and starting pitch, as well as a metronome click of quarter note = 100. Student initiates start. "Music Minus One" CD recordings are posted below.
