July 25, 2007 --- in other news
Listening to a mix of jazz from some of the Ken Burns Jazz series. A number of discs came out featuring work by many of the players. I made a playlist of those songs from those cds I had, and it has been interesting to listen to (in Winamp). I might have something from Count Basie followed by Coltrane followed by one of Herbie Hancock's eighties funk excursions and then Dave Brubeck. What fun. I may have to re-rip the Charles Mingus stuff and for some reason my disc drive is messing up when I try to rip Ornette Coleman, but it makes for some fascinating stuff to listen to as I work.
Well it looks like RC United will have its first two games this weekend. This is going to suck for two reasons. First, we will likely miss Blake's cool Spiderman party. Second, we also have to play on Sunday. On the bright side, we did have two practices and the girls look pretty good, I think. Full schedule is online here. Please come support us if you can! We are having to play up a division, with some girls against us a bit older than us, so we could use a few extra cheers.
The girls are going to Youth group on Wednesday afternoons. This is pretty good if I can keep them from fighting. Last week they got to have a "food fight" with mac and cheese, and I think they are watching a movie today. I am just glad the church has something for them this summer. I've decided to take the time to go down the street to the local library and sit in the air conditioned quiet and read. I started a couple books I figure I'll finish by the end of August.
Tonya is taking a class in World Religions this semester. I think she likes it okay, though it has been hard to devote as much to it as she would like. She has had a group project that looks like an interesting learning experience, but which has not been much fun for her.
Met with guys from Texas Tech on Monday to go over recent stuff with our project. It seems to be going pretty well, I guess, but I'm rather tired. Still trying to get podcasts for online courses recorded. The next month, I suppose, will be rather hectic. Some summer vacation!

Congratulations on the RC United team. I am bummed we wont see you at Blake's party. We are going. We are getting our 4 youth of our church into an organization this year. We are visiting other Episcopal Church Youth groups that are less than 2 hours away. Maybe we can come visit your church. Who is your youth director and how can I contact that person?
