Well, the twins had the birthday last Monday. We got rained out of our original plan to take them to WetZone, so we went to see The SImpsons Movie. It was pretty fun. As the critics say, it is like seeing a movie length episode. I laughed out loud many times, and even Tonya confessed to enjoying it. We had reservations at Edohana in Rockwall, but as we were driving to pick up the cake at Tonya's parents' house, we got a call from Angela who was having car problems. We then drove to where she was stuck in Dallas. Seems the engine was overheating, or at least the anti-freeze spilled over and created scary white smoke. Anyway, we took them all to Tokyo Hana (which I think used to be Benihana's), had a nice dinner that included my first taste of green tea ice cream (okay). Then we got the car to the house. The girls had cake the next day since it was late when we got home. Angela took the twins to see Hairspray (and me not having to take them was a kind of present for me).

The kids have not been able to go swimming that much this summer, either because something gets planned for the day we want to go or because of the rain. This picture was taken yesterday from my office window. Been that kind of summer. Missed Blake and Grandad's birthdays. Haven't done much but work.

RC United (Michaela and Alex) lost their first two games this past weekend. We didn't even get a goal in, but we did create a lot of chances. The team is a little disappointed, but they kept at it. They are playing girls (mostly) who are older and more experienced than they are, but I think they are, in a way, holding their own. They kept working and did not give up. You can see the standings/schedule here.

Listening to a station through iTunes called DI.fm Modern Jazz right now. They play a lot of the good hard bop: Coltrane, Monk, and the like. Much fun. If I can get to cleaning my study, will listen to some podcasts I'm behind on. Have one waiting for me with Keith Jarrett about making The Carnegie Hall Concert, one of the best CDs out this year.

Have tried to do a little writing, but either get busy or distracted. No one's fault by mine. I have started a new blog of at FanNation. I surely didn't want to do something new, with two other blogs going, but this one is about sports and I suspect will generate a few nasty comments. You can go here for the profile and click on the link for the blog. If you like, you can subscribe to the feed so you can see when I post something new.

Speaking of new posts, I haven't put anything on Monk Notes lately about music because of Blogcritics. You see, they prefer that new reviews that you are doing for them be posted on their site before you post them on your personal site. I'm okay with that, but I have had trouble posting a review I wrote for them. I wrote the editor nearly two weeks ago, but have heard nothing. If not for the money and/or fame, I think I'd like to make it big in writing just so the freakin' editors will answer my mail.

I may have mentioned that a poem of mine was accepted at Skyline Magazine. Seems like I've gotten several emails from the editor for proofing the poem, bio, table of contents. That's fine, especially since I saw two minor errors, but it seemed odd that one would do that when I'm not even getting paid a contributor's copy. In other writing news, I got a rejection for a new story the other day. That's not news, but I usually spend some time revising and editing before sending something new out, and I didn't this time. Don't know why I was so impatient.

Well, I didn't intend to write so much. Better go for now and think about working....ick!
