Train your Brain! |
Colossians 3:1- 4 says; Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. {2} Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. {3} For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. {4} When Christ, Who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. |
This message really hit home with me when I read it the other day. (For reasons better not mentioned! *G*) I'm taking the overall message rather than disecting it here. And that message is - Train your Brain! |
Verse 5 says to "Put to death" these things of your earthly nature. (6 Because of these the wrath of God is coming!) |

Put to death! |
Sexual Immorality |
Note - we are speaking about just thoughts here, it is said to lust is as bad as actually taking part in it! |
Impurity |
Webster defines this as: unchaste, obscene, dirty, foul, adulterated. No more dirty jokes at the water cooler! |
Lust |
Ahhh, lust. One of satans most valuable and commonly used tools. |
Evil desires |
Lust be one of these... Envy also ties in here too. Careful what you wish for! |
Greed (which is idolatry) |
How's that song go? Moneymoneymoneymoooonayy! Tsk tsk. Give all of yourself always! |
Anger |
Just remember how much Christ has forgiven of you, and you find it easier to forgive others in the same way. |
Rage |
Angers violent cousin. Self control is important for this one. |
Malice |
This is the desire to hurt others - no fantasizing about it... Remember, you must turn the other cheek! |
Slander |
*Sigh* Yup, I had some good times being a vicious gossip. It brings only pain for everyone involved! |
Filthy language |
Now this one is pretty easy. Gotta love the quarter-in-a-jar trick to stop this bad habit! |
This is also repeateded in many places of the bible... Ephesians 5: 31 says; Get rid of of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compasionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you. 1Peter 2:1 says; Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. Matthew 19: 15 says; For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 2 Cor. 12:20 says; For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged. |
