The FCF Trace was scheduled to take place on October 28-30 in the Baldwin section. Since the Baldwin section was one of the hardest hit by Hurricane Ivan and there was still alot of clean-up taking place, the district decided that they should just cancel the trace for this year and try again next year. Go ahead and start making plans to attend next year as everyone will have a great time.

Every year during National Royal Ranger week, we have Ranger Day at the park. It is a time for Ranger families to get together for a time of fun and fellowship. Ranger Day was supposed to be held on October 9. Because of a massive storm front moving through (at least it wasn't a hurricane this time), we ended up having to cancel it because of rain.

Our annual Mobile Section Canoe Expedition was supposed to take place on September 18. We were forced to cancel it because of a slight storm that came through earlier that week (Hurricane Ivan). Since most people in the area were still without power and water, we felt that it was prudent to cancel the canoe trip and wait until next year to go again. Keep us in your prayers as we try to recover from the hurricane.

Our Ranger Kids' Field Day took place on August 14. The weather could not have been better for the field day. Even though it was August (which, in Mobile, means temperatures in the 90s) the temperature was uncharacteristically in the 70s all day. Events at the field day included BB gun shoot, bow and arrow shoot, tomahawk throw, wagon wheel race, horse lassoing, skeeball, spear toss, and buffalo chip toss. Everyone that attended had a great time. The winners were Chase Tillman (1st), Drew Poche (2nd), and Christian Poche (3rd).

Our Mobile Section Pow Wow was held on July 9-10. The weather was great for the most part, even though we did get some rain on Saturday (even though the weather man predicted it wouldn't rain). Everyone that attended had a fantastic time and we had a great council fire service on Friday night. Special thanks go to Camp Commander Palmer Gatlin and all the other commanders who helped make this Pow Wow a success.

We would also like to give special recognition to outpost and individuals who achieved special awards.

In the outpost competition (included campsite judging, patrol spirit, and several outpost skills), Crawford Assembly of God (#147) won first place, Saraland First Assembly of God (#22) won second place, and Calvary Assembly of God (#11) won third place.

In individual competition, winners in each age group were awarded by each event and then overall winners were awarded by cumulative scores.

Thanks to all who helped clean up the campgrounds in order to get it ready for Pow Wow.

Thanks to those that were able to attend the Alabama District Royal Rangers Council. It was held in Vincent, Alabama. Everyone that attended had a great time of fellowship and learning. We were able to take classes on some of the modules in the new program. We will try to teach those classes in our section in the near future. For more information on what took place at the council, see the Alabama District Website.

The District Pow Wow took place on May 27-29. Two churches from the Mobile Section were able to attend, Crawford Assembly of God and Saraland Assembly of God. Although the weather man predicted no rain for the entire weekend, the "It's not a pow wow unless it rains" rule was still in effect and it started raining Friday afternoon. Everyone had a great time in spite of the rain. Congratulations to Saraland Assembly of God for placing in the Campsite Competition.

Thanks to everyone that made the annual trip to the Bay Bears game a complete success. We had over 50 Royal Rangers and their families there representing the Mobile Section. Everyone that attended had a great time watching the game and fellowshipping. The Bay Bears were playing the Birmingham Barons and the game was a blow-out with the Bay Bears pulling ahead early in the first inning. Thanks to Tommy O'brient for organizing the trip and for pre-buying our tickets.

Congratulations to Paul Stevens for earning the Gold Medal of Achievement. Paul's ceremony was held on Sunday, April 25. Paul is only the third person in the section to achieve this award. Thanks to everyone who attended and made this day special for Paul and his family.

Check out pictures of the GMA Ceremony on our Pictures Page.

Thanks to Calvary Assembly of God for hosting our annual Sweetheart Banquet. Everyone that attended had a great time. There was a lot of great food and fellowship.

Our Sectional Ranger of the Year was held on February 7. Congratulations to all the boys who were named Outpost Ranger of the Year and were there to compete. Winners were Chase Tillman in Ranger Kids, Stephen Tillman in Discovery Rangers, Seth Stevens in Adventure Rangers, and Paul Stevens in Expedition Rangers.

Check out pictures from our competition on our Pictures Page.

We had our first annual "Winter Campout" on January 2-3. Actually, it was only winter in name. Temperatures were in the 70s all weekend with high humidity. The weather made for almost perfect camping conditions, especially since we had no rain. Everyone that attended had plenty of fun and great fellowship. We encourage all outpost to make plans to attend next year.
