Actually it makes a lot of sense. I was in contact with polybebber, depending on what he says, let me get back to you on that option.
You will have to let me know what the exchange rate is converted to Canadian so that I send you enough to cover the exchange rate charges.
Thanks for the option, Mike. I appreciate it.
No problem, just let me know if you want to go ahead. Maybe I'll order a copy myself, I have the F-16 book and it's superb...

Animal,
Saw a thread a couple ago where you were looking for colours for a mirage.
When sorting my paints out I have a couple of xtra colour enamals for a mirrage
2000, I used them for my 1/72 but there should be enough paint left for another
kit.
Let me know if you are still in need and I can send them over to you if needed.

PM: Re:Your F-14 Tomcat Book
Hello Hugo,
Can you please contact with me only through my emailaddress daco@glo.be rather than the ARC message board? It's a lot easier for me to keep just one system.
Can you specify which kind of IMO it will be? Is it made by a bank or by the postoffice?
I'm charged 15 euro if it's done by a bank (as this is then similar to a check), but it's cost free on my side if it's supplied by the postoffice (then you won't have to add the extra 15 euro).
Can you pay to a Bank of America account without any costs on my behalf? Then you can deposit the amount also to my BoA account...

Hugo,
that is very surprising, even given the holiday rush! I will check with my PO and see if they have any way of tracking it. They said it should've only taken 4 to 7 days.
I'm terribly sorry. Some of the delay was due to me not getting them to the PO on time. But even still, you should've had them.
I'll see what I can find out.

PM: the Tomcat last-combat mission thread
Hugo,
As a fellow tomcat fan, I feel compelled to raise a concern. you know better than to put stuff like that in a thread... whether you mean it to raise hell or not, someone will take the bait and run with it. The last thing I want is to see this thread devolve into another Tomcat vs. Superhornet crapfest. People will always start in just joking, but it's been scientifically proven that as soon as someone JOKES about it, someone else steps in who isn't.
I'm hella upset that the last two squadrons are coming back soon. I'm even more upset that I'm spending money in september to go and watch a RETIREMENT ceremony in Virginia Beach instead of an airshow. That said, it's up to us to take the moral high-ground and not dog on other aircraft. Especially when it's too late to do anything about it
We're adults, we should behave as such.
Cheers,
-Jeremy

PM: Re: Depression.
thanks animal for asking about the depression. i am feeling quite reasonable at the
moment. its taken sometime for me to reply because, after a bit of a foulup over some decals with someone on ARC and it being the 28th anniversary of my mom's
death this january, i shyed away from ARC 100% and found a little refuge on the
wiffy site.
modelling helps keep me sane these days, even if its only a few brushstrokes of
paint and that's a session been and done with. decalling i am finding is really suffering because of the depression. the only thing that is remotely like started here is an italeri 1/72 rafale-B in RAF markings.
unfortnately as i use the PC's in my local library, i cannot post up images of the
models i do so i resort to photographing them plenty with a rather old fashioned
35mm camera.
at the moment the only non wiffy thing i have on the bench is airfix's 1/72 A-10,
as because some 17 odd years ago i got to sit in the cockpit of one i have a bit of a soft spot for the hog so i don't wiff A-10's.
otherwise all my models are wiffy all the way. one i am really perservering with is
as adaptation of the RoG Me P1099 kit [as was shown on the front page of ARC] this week. please don't be offended by the thought of it being finished as a blue angels hack from the early 1950's! the hasegawa F11F tiger that is donating some
of the decals is going into the 1950's FAA livery of sky undersurfaces and EDS gray tops.
my first name is actually trevor. howard is a netname i have used for years.

PM: SR-71 markings
Sorry for the 2-weeks late reply, I kind of "lost" the thread. Anyways, the SR-71 markings I was referring to are purely red, no outline. The SR-71 on display at Offutt AFB wore them, and AFAIK was the only plane still in those markings--I was so disappointed they repainted it recently into "typical" SR-71 markings.
I have no good photos depicting the markings, as they are about as low-vis as you'll ever see--most photos it looks like the plane it utterly black with no markings at all--you have to be quite close to see it actually has most of the standard markings, just in red.

No problem, Mike, I totally understand the pressures of being a parent and stuff. Things happen. Believe me, I know. Family matters come first. Right now, now that I've got all these decals. I've gotta get myself into a position to be able to use them. (ie: enough money to buy all the aircraft I need to finish them off) Meanwhile I'm contenting myself making a webpage of my decals that I have in hand. Of course, I'm now kicking myself that I haven't managed to get back into the hobby fast enough to get a hold of this decal sheet (48-038 - Top Gun Old School Aggressors). Oh, well, them's the breaks. Hello Hugo
The cost of cashing an IMO is 15 euro, about CAD 22.50... so this is no option., and I won't be able to cash it when it's not in euro either.
Visa, MC or Paypal works best.
TNT, DHL, etc are costing around 75-110 euro, so that's not worth either I think for getting it sooner than the normal Air Mail post.

If possible, send cash by reg. letter, not a MO. Any sort of MOs are a pain to handle and way too expensive to cash overhere.

As I said in one of my posts on General Discussion. I'm going back to school to take Photography (as a major for my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree). I'm also into shooting aviation, and am thinking about buying a Nikon D50 or D70s.
Just curious...how much did you pay for the 80-400mm f5.6 VR lens, you got? Nikkor? Sigma? Which brand is it?
Hello Anaimal,
Sorry about the delay in answering - much too much going on.
First, it's the Nikkor VR lens; I love it, some guys don't, and there is no doubt it is not designed for "sports photography" as such. I however, have learned to use it to it's best advantages with my particular camera (the D70), and feel pretty good about my results.
The lens cost me about $1200.00; you can probably find a nice used lens for a bit less. If you want just the 400mm focal length, you could go for a faster prime lens,
but the cost would probably be more.
If you are considering either the D50 or D70s (which are both excellent cameras), I would first take a close look at the Nikon D200, at a couple of hundred dollars more than the D70s, it's a marked improvement with the 11- segment metering system and fasted buffer - that'll be my next investment.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask any other qustions you may have.
Take care, and best in school!

If I wasn't saving up to get the DSLR (Nikon D50), I'd jump on both of them. But unfortunately, I have to save up almost $1005.00 in 6 weeks time. If they're still there after 6 weeks of being up on the market, I'll jump on 1 of them, because I've always wanted to build a Voodoo and I wrecked my old one which I had from the 80s. :crying: At $60.00 to buy both of them, it's a little steep right now. Have to think of building my "career" first.
No problem- I understand the need for career development. Shoot me a PM when you're ready to buy- if I have one of the kits still available at the time it's yours.
$1,050 for the D50? Ouch! I assume the price you have is Canadian dollars.

Silly question but - do you have the ability to read DVD photos on your computer?
OK, thought so . . . why don't you send me your mailing addy and I'll send you a disk of the photos. It has to go on a DVD as I shot about 400 digitals at 2+ Meg each. I'll have to ask that the photos remain for your personal use and no commercial application or redistribution of my photos is allowed without my prior knowledge (and all the other applicable legal queep).
You'll have to allow me the weekend to get it done though as I'm working on projects for TwoBobs, Jake Melampy and Scott Brown Decals, as well as articles for Intenational Air Power Review on Hawgsmoke and the ACC Heritage Conference. Yeah - and I have a day job too.

I wish I could do photography full time to. It's been a hobby for 30 years and I haven't made much money off of it but I enjoy the heck out of it. I've been published a bunch of times, but the family and the real job have to take priority on my time so I'm not way into it as others are.
Please be aware that VFA-41 has recently received all new jets. If you plan on using these photos for reference to TwoBobs VFA-41 decal sheet, you'll be disappointed. The TwoBobs sheet has the jets from 2002. The newer F-18Fs arrived last fall. I sent Bob a set of detail shots of each aircraft, just in case he decides to update the VFA-41 release for the newer Superbugs - after he completes his move to his new digs.
I'll go out on a limb here, and I can't make any promises due to my schedule, but I have a bunch of slides I shot of VF-41 back in 1983/84 at Oceana. I was assigned to HQ TAC (now ACC) from 1982 to 1984 and made a few photo trips across the river to shoot our Navy neighbors. The slides are buried, and I'd want to scan them first. But, if you're willing to be patient, I'm planning to buy a top-end film and slide scanner this summer and will start scanning my slide collection. I can put the VF-41 Tomcats at the top of the list.
