FAQ

Home

Usually source materials are 2D drawings of parts and assemblies. The drawings could be either in one of the CAD formats or paper drawings. Most important for us are presense of parts dimensions. Only fully dimensioned parts could be modeled without any questions. There is only one exclusion - if drawing is in a CAD format, and some dimensions could be measured from a drawing, but all necessary views should be in place.

IMPORTANT: All source drawings accepted only via Internet, paper drawings are not accepted

Special Requirements

  • If you can, please, remove any sensitive information from your drawings leaving only reference number. We mean product code, customer id, material, etc.
  • Parts type is not important for us but it should be only mechanical parts, not architectural or landscape drawings.
  • All drawings have to be well dimensioned. Drawings without dimensions processed on special request.
  • Drawings with tables or other data for complex geometry processed on special request.
  • Sheet metal drawings processed on special request when you need resulting model to be made as sheet metal features
  • Drawings with complex surfaces processed on special request.
  • Drawings size is not important it only affects the price
  • Drawings scale is not important, but all annotations have to be in a standard size
  • Drafting standard is not important
  • Dimensions tolerances are not important unless you order to put them into the model dimensions
  • Assemblies should come with all parts drawings, except standard parts, and complete BOM.

Troubleshooting

It is very often when manual drawings contains some mistakes or errors. Some dimensions are missed or not possible to achieve, or views geometry doesn't correspond to each other. In such a cases we are making decision on how to fix them, and resulting 3D model comes with problems report.

Source Paper Drawings, Blueprints

Paper drawings, either manual or printed from CAD, should be scanned at 150 dpi in a grayscale color mode and saved in GIF or TIFF (with compression) formats. No need to clear-up images or vectorize them at all. Images in other formats should be compressed with ZIP. JPEG compressions have to be of the best quality. To scan large drawings you may need to find printshop with large format scanner.

Source CAD Drawings

We can read almost any standard interchange or CAD systems native format. In addition to the drawing if you have any other information or CAD data in 2D or 3D you can also send it to us to speed up modeling. It is always better send us original drawings in native CAD format rather to convert them to DXF or any other interchange format.
