SpinDemon Wheels
Due to the high speeds at which model rocket cars travel and their small wheel diameter, the wheels turn at tremendous RPM's and hence have to be strong, balanced, and smooth. SpinDemon wheels will be machined from aluminum barstock in a design that will be as light weight as possible, yet strong enough for their application. They will be available with or without an o-ring groove. No o-ring is less rolling friction, but the surface has to be smooth. This is less critical if your car is the guide wire kind. With o-ring, the surface doesnt have to be perfectly smooth, but these wheels may not be able to turn at very high RPM's without damaging the o-ring. So far, I am developing a 0.75" diameter wheel sets for cars with mini-motors (see the wheels on the pictures of the car in the photo albums) And a 1.5" diameter carbon/boron wheel. Custom sizes may be available later on, but not currently. Write to me and I will let you know.
The first bit of progress on the new boron/carbon/aluminum hybrid wheel. This wheel is 1.5" in diameter and contains 6 layers of carbon fiber cloth, and 40 boron fibers in the spokes. The wheel has not been trued yet, and will have an aluminum hub as well as an aluminum 'tyre' that can either be run straight on the aluminum or an o-ring can be stretched into a groove. So far, the wheel weighs in at 1.5g
