FAYETTEVILLE - Dave Gearhart has 9,200 square feet, four bedrooms, an apartment over the garage and an elevator hidden inside what appears to be a closet.
No wonder the chancellor of the University of Arkansas can't figure out where he left his Diet Coke.
Gearhart opened the Wallace W. and Jama custom cigar bandsM. Fowler House to media tours Thursday, showing off the just-completed residence. Gearhart, who was the university's chief cigar accessory fundraiser for 10 years before being selected as chancellor, helped raise money for the house before he knew he'd be the first resident. "We've fayette cigar store really been too busy to enjoy it much as a home yet," Gearhart said.son is smoking a cigar"We did bring some of our own furniture and paintings, so there are parts of it that already feel like home. That's been nice." His wife Jane admits the layout of the rooms, circling around a central rotunda of traditional dark paneling, sometimes confuses her. "I do find myself walking around in circles sometimes," she year smoking cigar said. "We haven't really figured out where we like to hang out yet." The home, financed by private donations, was completed cigar deals in June. Gearhart moved in July 1, his first day as chancellor. They didn't have to move far. From the window in the free cigar samplers exercise area off the master bedroom, the Gearharts can see the white, two-story home next door. If cuban cigar vintage it looks familiar, that's because it's their old home, purchased not long after Dave accepted the fundraising position in 1998. His brother, a deputy general counsel for Wal-Mart, is renting the house. "It's nice to have family right there," Gearhart said. "The other advantage is that I can still go over there and have a cigar, which I'm not allowed to do here." As university property, a new campuswide smoking ban applies to the chancellor's residence. The home is a lot different from Gearhart's first place when he returned to Fayetteville in 1998. Jane and their son weren't planning to relocate until the end of the school year, "so I moved into the apartment over the garage at my mother's house. I was living with my mom," Gearhart said. The Fowler House, named for the lead benefactors, is the fourth home for top administrators in university history. A house that once sat near the corner of McElroy Avenue and Dickson Street on campus was demolished in the 1940s, and several university presidents later lived in a school-owned home on Mount Sequoyah. When the jobs of chancellor of the Fayetteville campus cigar dating and the university system president were split in lighting cigar with zippo 1982, the university sold the Mount Sequoyah residence, opting to give chancellors a housing cigar air filters for cars allowance for their own homes off-campus, Gearhart said. The university again purchased a chancellor's home in 1999. Former chancellor John White split time between that house and his private residence in Rogers. The house, just cigar clubs a few doors north of Fowler House on Razorback Road, is currently for sale, and the name for cigar seller proceeds will help pay for the new residence. Certain amenities are personal items, such as a painting of Merton College at Oxford University hudson wisconsin cigar friendly that was a gift from the late Clay Edwards, a long-time fundraising colleague of Gearhart's. Other items, including the cigar bars atlanta ga Steinway baby grand piano in the entryway, were donated. "I used to play, but I forgot everything I knew a long time ago," Gearhart said. "Thankfully, it plays automatically, because it's got an iPod dock built into it." Even that, however, can't help him find his missing soft drink. "I don't know where I cohiba cigar set it david yurman gold diamond cigar ring down, but I'm sure it's leaving a ring on something," he said. By The Numbers Wallace W. & Jama M. Fowler House Size: 9,218 square feet heated, 2,125 square feet unheated Construction Cost: $2.5 million Furnishings: $458,000 Private Gifts: $2.7 million ($1.75 million lead gift from Wallace and Jama Fowler) Source: Staff Report Sponsored Links Reader Comments (No comments posted.) Whether it makes a difference that Barack Obama once was a smoker (and may be struggling to remain so) may depend on whether or not you smoke.

Whether this is a campaign issue may depend on your party affiliation, whether a loved one died of lung cancer or whether you regard the White House as a petri dish for popular culture or a residence where someone -- even a president -- should have some privacy.
Candidates never want voters to see manufacturing cigar humidors them cigar chick in anything less than a positive light, so photos of Obama with a cigarette are rare or dated. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune last year in the earliest days of his presidential cigar bar bid, Obama averred that he'd never been a heavy smoker, but "I've got an ironclad demand colibri lighter with cigar cutter from my wife that in the stresses of the campaign I lonsdale cigar profits don't succumb. I've been chewing Nicorette strenuously."
Although smoking rates have steadily declined, more than one in five adult Americans smoke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Sen. John McCain also once smoked, but says he hasn't had a cigarette in more than 28 years.
It has been decades since we've had a president who was a regular cigarette smoker, way back to Franklin Roosevelt.
President Lyndon Johnson smoked heavily until suffering his first heart attack before becoming president. He quit for 16 years, but resumed the habit after leaving the White House.
John Kennedy and Bill Clinton smoked a cigar or pipe only occasionally.
Dwight Eisenhower smoked four packs daily until 1949, four years before he became president.
Often asked how he new jersey cigar humidor quit, Eisenhower said that he simply put smoking out of differences in cigar sizes his mind, according to one biography.
Obama, by his own account, has started and stopped several times, leading skeptics to debate across the Internet what "stopping" really means.
Obama, 46, said in February that he was quitting again, which of course meant that he'd started again.
In May, Obama's doctor said that the candidate was in excellent health at the time of his last checkup, while adding that his smoking habit poses an obvious risk and that Obama is using Nicorette "with success."
'Teachable moment'
Organizations such as the American Lung Association see the back woods cigar issue of Barack Obama's cigarette smoking as a teachable moment.
"Certainly, there are some very smart and cigar humidor building planes very capable people who unfortunately get cuban cigar baber pole addicted to tobacco," said Bob cigar inn Moffitt, communications director for the association in cigar fish Minnesota and a former smoker himself. "We certainly encourage people not to smoke, but it's more cigar invitation of a teachable black cigar smokers moment rather than getting concerned about what Obama should do.
"What we tell people, and what we could tell Sen. Obama, is don't give up. You may quit on your first attempt. It may be your seventh. It may be your 17th."
